I guess there are some expansion rumors circulating. The new B1G TV contract is supposed to be astronomical, more than doubling what the other conferences are getting for media rights. They also seemed to have strategically timed the expiration of the new contract to renew right about the time other conferences are going to be negotiating.

6 years is risky tho

In 6 years the number of people getting bundled cable may be drastically lower

This could be the last huge tv deal for them; making it short could backfire

I highly doubt the tv length was only the B1G wanting to keep it short. Sports media is a little antsy too

But it's Fox, so they are guaranteed some OTA coverage. Havin a super long term deal still won't guarantee the $ if the bottom drops out from under the customer base.

Idaho is becoming the first school ever to drop from FBS to FCS. That has to suck for them

It's also speculated that if the cord-cutting gets too serious in 6 years they can pick a partner who is possibly better suited to deliver the internet games.

Ban on satellite camps reversed, Greg Sankey returns to evil lair to craft more PR-friendly version.
04-28-2016 , 02:15 PM
Hahahahaha nice. Maybe the doj snooping around made them rescind it?
04-28-2016 , 02:18 PM
I'm sure it did. Last thing they need is another losing lawsuit.

pretty much had to, nobody wanted them and they're a good fit in the big sky.

Unfortunately about 23 kids just lost scholarships. Every thing involves kids getting ****ed over--same as it ever was.

Are they losing scholarships by attrition? Or are they actively taking scholarships away from athletes on scholarship?

FCS schools have just 63 available football scholarships, compared to 85 for FBS programs.

so it's 22. Also FCS sometimes offers just quarter/half to spread it around. FBS are all full ones.

Schools like that with no hope of being profitable should just drop sports.

I think they think the extra applicants and good alumni feelings ($$) are worth the loss

Western Kentucky moved up to D I because the couple big paydays it gets for playing road games vs SEC teams pays for the entire program (and the Chancellor is a money grubbing asshat).

That seems like a bit of cooking the books to me. According to http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/finances/, it took $3.7mm in student fees and $15.8mm in school funds for the athletic department to "break even".
