1st and goal with like 40 seconds left and you only get 2 non-spike plays off.

Arizona Cardinals at 02:24
1-10-ARI 10 (2:24) 13-K.Warner pass short left to 11-L.Fitzgerald to ARI 18 for 8 yards (52-P.Willis).
Timeout #3 by SF at 02:15. Timeout here saves 15 seconds because 2 minute warning is coming up
2-2-ARI 18 (2:12) 34-T.Hightower up the middle to ARI 19 for 1 yard (51-T.Spikes).
Two-Minute Warning
3-1-ARI 19 (2:00) 34-T.Hightower right tackle to ARI 15 for -4 yards (32-M.Lewis).
Timeout #2 by ARI at 01:15. Timeout here would've saved 40 seconds.
4-5-ARI 15 (1:14) 9-D.Johnson punts 40 yards to SF 45, Center-48-N.Hodel. 20-A.Rossum to ARI 42 for 13 yards (47-A.Francisco).

First down - run
clock down to 2:00 warning
Second down - run (timeout)
clock stopped at 1.55
third down - run
clock down to 1:10

Dal @ Seattle 2004 is the closest I can think of.
On 4th and 1 with just over 2 minutes left Seattle goes for the 1st down that will bleed off most of the clock. Alexander busts through the stacked up line and goes 30 yds for the TD. Dallas scores quickly, gets the onside kick and scores again to win.

running on new personnel to spike the ball is maybe the greatest thing I have ever seen. Plus I had Arizona in my survivor pool.

Yeah, they should call it before the 2* but only because it saves 5 seconds.

* It might however be worth it to wait if you're around 2:05 or so. The reason is that they can then risk throwing a pass because one of the main dangers, stopping the clock, isn't an issue since the 2 minute warning is coming up. In that case, permitting them a wider range of plays is probably worse than giving up 5 seconds. You'd rather keep them predictable and plowing into a 9 man front.

I can't think of a good example, but that's mostly because so few teams let the villain to score. I can only think of the GB-DEN Superbowl and the Michigan-OSU game in 2005(the Michigan game is questionable, I don't think Lloyd Carr is that smart, but it was a situation where allowing the go-ahead touchdown helped Michigan's chance of winning the game).

The Chiefs barely had healthy enough players to field a defense. We had a safety playing linebacker for parts of the game. Going for it was absolutely the right decision there.

I still hope Herm gets fired soon, because if we start getting good he's just going to break our hearts in the playoffs. But that was the right decision.

omgomgomg this keeps getting better and better

From ESPN

"We couldn't change the play. We had to go with what we called. If it would've been at the 1, we would've made it. But they moved it and didn't give us any time. So what are we going to do? If they would've moved it to the 10 we still would've had to run the play that was called. We got screwed because of the spot, first and foremost."

IT WAS THIRD DOWN MIKEY. HOW ABOUT SPIKING THE DAMN BALL?

I must have misinterpreted his press conference last week. I thought he said he wanted winners on the team, apparently he must have said he wanted whiners the way he is acting.

We all know this would be a lie, idiotic end of game situations and blown timeouts have been a Mike Martz staple for years.

Crennel calling 3 straight pass plays down by 1 with less than 2 minutes left, forcing the kicker to kick a 56 yard FG to take the lead, and also leaving way too much time on the clock for Buffalo to get a decent kick off to take the lead.

For his sake, it all worked out. But I thought this was mind-bogglingly terrible coaching on a night when Quinn is completing well under 50% of his passes.

Timeouts were great, would you have preferred Buffalo to kick with no time on the clock so if they make it, you don't get 4 or 5 plays to get into field goal range?

THE SQUIB KICK in MNF. Perhpas we can just default all squib kicks as stupid and not even bring it up anymore...also Bobby Valentine for allowing Al Leiter to pitch in a tie world series elimination game in the 9th inning with like 3,000 pitches. Yeah it's been eight years but I'm still pissed.

Can we just get a video of everything from the Browns last possession on? I really don't even feel like describing it through words does that justice.

Romeo calling TOs at the end was one of the few things he has ever done right wrt clock/to management.

1. Jauron calling three runs from the 32 with like a minute left to set up the 47 yard field goal.

2. The squib kick up 2 with 1:35 left.

3. Calling three pass plays from the 38 with 1:45 left and 3 TOs. You can run your normal offense from there Romeo.

the timeouts were BAD. If the FG is made the game is over period, 30 seconds w/ no time outs = gg, sorry.

Keep the offense rushed, limit their playcalling, limit their ability, keep the clock running, keep the pressure on them.

Timeouts were bad, bad, bad.

I'll tell you if I'm Buffalo I breathe a huge sigh of relief when Romeo starts calling his timeouts. Can't be good for both teams. What I also couldn't believe is that Buffalo played for a ****ing 47-yarder into the wind. Who does that w/o trying to get another first down?

I think we just saw our answer of what would happen if Herm Edwards ever played against himself in a huge game.

Limit their playcalling? If you want to talk about teams taking a sigh of relief, how about the Browns when Buffalo decided to run three times into the line and settle for a 48 yarder? I know I'd rather have them do that three times rather than not call a timeout and have them throw the ball to stop the clock.
