I often fantasize about sitting down with various historical figures, and having 100% honest, candid, no pressure discussions where I ask them what they were really thinking about some specific thing at the time it was happening.

Asking Chip how he really saw the Demarco thing going is right at the top of the list.

this is coming from higher up that #2 Chip. here's a quote from the article you linked:

Quote:
On Friday, Thompson-Robinson sent out a tweet defending Kelly, adding, “Don’t turn this into a feeding frenzy on Coach, this is about the safety of the program as a whole.” He elaborated in another tweet, writing: “Would also like to state that Coach Kelly agrees with ALL of the demands on this letter and is working to get them in place. As the player whose face is on the cover of the article, I apologize to coach as I was unaware the letter would be given to the media for them to mislead.”

and here's #2 Chip back in April https://sports.yahoo.com/chip-kelly-...162112864.html

Quote:
UCLA coach Chip Kelly isn’t going to get into the business into wading into coronavirus topics that he doesn’t fully have a grasp on.

Kelly met with reporters on Thursday and was asked about the possibility of a 2020 football season. He didn’t offer his prediction and instead chose to defer to people more well versed in viral infections and public health on that topic.

“I’ll leave are we going to play up to the experts,” Kelly said. “There’s medical experts who understand this a whole lot better than any football coach ever would. And it’s a lot bigger than football. I talked to [ESPN analyst] Lee Corso this week and his comment to me was, ‘The game of football is not more important than one person’s life.’ And I think he’s 100-percent correct and I agree with him 100 percent.”
Quote:
Kelly said he didn’t think it was feasible to play football games without fans in the stands.

“If it’s not safe for fans to attend the game then I don’t know why it would be safe for players to participate in the game,” Kelly said. “But, again, those are things that we don’t control. I don’t have any say in what’s going on. I think the medical people who are in charge will … the governors of the states and the mayors are the ones that are going to tell you if we can do it because the NCAA can say, ‘You’re all going back,’ and if Governor [Gavin] Newsom says we’re not going back, then we’re not going back.”

And that's whey he'd never be able to hack it in the SEC.

When Chip was the only one doing RPOs and he and Gus Malzahn were the ones going super fast they were geniuses - when people catch up and there arent any “new” ideas then it comes back to who has the best players again. Such is life.

Both coaches got away from the hyper speed offense and started going for the perfect play via the check with me's. I can't speak for Chip, but Gus's passing concepts are 20 years old and have never evolved. There are plenty of new ideas, Gus is just too stubborn to adopt them.

Yes but thats largely because ppl can handle high speed now - in 2010 we’d play Malzahn and not be lined up, not be able to sub, etc - now days teams can handle that type of speed and practice everyday to be able to.
