This. The only thing better than watching Chip's offense is the fact that we also get to watch the dog-murderer get destroyed at the same time! When Chip has a QB he wants to protect there will CERTAINLY be variations of this offense that don't expose the QB to anywhere near as much contact, so it's not like "this system" is just automatically unsustainable because QBs will always be getting injured, it'll change when there's a good young QB back there worth protecting for the long haul.

Clearly. For what it's worth, for those of you seeing this type of offense for the first time, my first reaction as a Ducks fan when I saw them in the first quarter was: "Why are they going so slow???" Noone ever hurried back to the line, they never once had the entire offense set just waiting on the refs to spot the ball (which happened regularly at Oregon), there really didn't seem to be any sense of urgency. They were only "hurrying up" in the sense that there was no huddle, but they were walking back to their positions and taking their time before the next snap. They were consistently snapping the ball with under 20 seconds on the play clock, which makes no sense to me. At Oregon, the average time between snaps for Chip's ENTIRE TENURE, which includes the ~40% of snaps that were *not* run in hurry up mode, because late in blowouts and the like, was 21.5 seconds. When they are in full hurry up mode the Ducks snap the ball within 15 seconds of the whistle *almost every time*.

So what we saw last night was definitely the Eagles offense easing into things; a walk through basically. That was the "yellow light" version of the offense, and we haven't seen green light yet.

Im an oregon alumni and I love to see chip doing well. A lot of people here in oregon hate on him for "abandoning" Oregon but I mean cmon you cant blame the guy for wanting to further his career and make a little more green. I am excited to see how he does the rest of the season.

That image is taken a few seconds before the ball is snapped.

By the time the ball was snapped the Skins had 4 linemen and 1 linebacker in the middle. The two other linebackers had gone wide to help the corners. The two safeties were somewhat deep.

The left DE went after Vick, the other three linemen got blocked, and the RB beat the MLB one on one. If you care about your QB's well-being this play is not so good as Vick took a decent hit.

The play was sweet because if your linebackers don't help outside, you are going to get killed on that screen. The key to defending it is to bring a safety into the box to help with that middle run and/or have a stud MLB make a big play.

We were joking about fake cramps, but you have to think a lot of legit cramps will happen. Every series is dehydrating for the D.

I don't understand why college fans get so butt hurt when their coach leaves for a better job or more money. Delusion is strong in the NCAA fanbase.

Offer any one of them a better job, with more competent (assumption here) coworkers, more money, more exposure and the opportunity to prove your work against a higher bar and see what happens.

Last night when the first drive ended in the fumble, during the review every single D player they showed was panting.

Quite frankly I haven't run into anyone in Oregon who hates on Chip or (seriously) feels he "abandoned us". I mean lots of people here, myself included, would have liked him to stay, and we may toss the word "abandoned" around sarcastically, but I don't think too many people really begrudge him making the choice everyone expected him to make anyway. At least not from what I've seen.

Eh, the sentiment is applicable to most non-top tier colleges that have lost coaches to better jobs, not just Oregon.

I mean whats the alternative? Any young, elite, up-and-coming coaches who dream of coaching in the NFL should just never go to schools like Oregon, so they dont abandon them? Its delusional at any school. The reason Oregon had Chip Kelly was because he was using it as a stepping stone, it was a greatly mutually beneficial relationship. I'm glad to hear BobJoeJim say that that isnt a legitimately popular sentiment.

I wouldn't even say he was using it as a stepping stone. I think he had every intention of coaching at Oregon for 10+ years when he took the job, and I think he proved that by actually turning down the first NFL jobs he was offered, but when you get to take your pick of NFL jobs, that's a pretty great opportunity. Who wouldn't want to see if their system works at the highest level?

I don't think "stepping stone" is right with Chip, because his rise was so meteoric. He was an FCS coordinator until 2006. Oregon hires him as offensive coordinator in 2007, names him head coach in waiting in 2008, and then makes him head coach in 2009. At that point it was just about making sure he didn't bolt for a different school willing to give him an HC job. At this point I still don't think anyone (Chip included) was considering the idea of him getting NFL offers. Three great years at Oregon later and suddenly Tampa Bay comes calling. He turns it down, but gets his choice of offers the following year and jumps. He turned it into a stepping stone by being so damn good at coaching football, and proving it. It didn't start out as one though, I don't think.

And as for him leaving, one of the major attributes that makes him such a great coach is the fact that he's massively over the top uber-competitive. So it wasn't any kind of surprise that of course he'd want to test himself at the highest level eventually. Everyone in Oregon knew he was going to leave at some point, and for the most part the majority of fans just wanted to enjoy the ride as long as possible. Some people took it personally when he left, sure, some people always will, but they were the minority. At least based on my discussions and interactions with other fans. Maybe I'm wrong, and the butthurt fans are actually the majority, and I just happen to be a good fan who knows other good fans. Hard to say for sure.

It's just weird that he made the lateral move to Philly.

Guarantee he just didn't want to get lit up on his side of the field and be made into a highlight. No leadership at all, just bitching for people to shift over to him.

Coach Chip Kelly believes the Eagles offense was "slow" in Monday night's win.

Advice: The Eagles' 53 first-half plays were the most by any team since the 1998 Vikings, but Kelly wants to clean up several areas. "We left the ball on the ground too much," Kelly said. "We didn't get the ball to the officials. We could have sped things up from a process in between plays. That's something we need to work on." Although Philly's offense was lightning paced by NFL standards, it indeed lacked the fluidity of Kelly's Oregon attacks. The Eagles are only going to get faster in the coming weeks.
