Also not like just anyone can do this and drop that many points. Kid is obv good

edit: i think the strat is esp lame from a coaching perspective b/c it does little for player development. makes it even stranger that it is his dad who i would expect to think more long term. do they always play this way?
Sorry, just to clarify -- I was being facetious; his Dad is not the actual coach of Chino Hills, but he does have a lot of influence over the team.

More likely the coach lives in some other suburb 35 miles away in a different direction, like Redlands . Generally, People don't live in LA and commute to chino hills. It is the other way around.
But yeah, 35 mile commute could be 1-2 hours easy if you are going the wrong way at the wrong times of day.

Yeah he can obviously play but when you see "92 points scored" then you actually look at how it went down, the impressiveness kind of goes away. There are a bunch of kids that can score 90 in a high school game if they were allowed to shoot 60 times and cherry pick the whole game.

It was a teaching/coaching job so those are more likely to break commuting trends than normal jobs because a lot of teaching jobs are in suburbs and areas where there typically aren't business parks and a bunch of people commuting in.

At any rate he lives in Pasadena and had a 4 year old and 9 month old at the time.

And yeah, Pasadena to Chino Hills is a ****ty commute.

Not quite 3pm PST and it's already an hour. Yeah, F that.

Baik, 37, cited his family as the biggest factor in his decision. He and his wife, Grace, have two sons, ages 4 and 9 months.

“I have one going to kindergarten this year and it just kind of sunk in,” he said. “These are precious years I can’t go back and I want to be there more for them. I want to make the most of this time.”

Baik, who lives in Pasadena, says he’ll finish out the school year as a physical education teacher at Chino Hills but will seek a teaching-coaching job closer to home.

He considered moving to Chino Hills but his extended family is in the Pasadena-Arcadia area.

“My wife’s heart is there and I don’t think that would be fair to her,” he said.

I am not rooting against him and yea the coach definitely has influence over what is happening. I played ball with some chuckers but even those guys when we were blowing a team out knew when to let up even if the coaches didn't particularly care, and sometimes it was their dad that was the coach.

The dad influencing and pushing the kid to embarrass other really weak teams is ****ty. And the other teams coach not being hard on his kids for playing basically no defense is just poor gamesmanship.

more perspective on these guys and their father and the overall mentality.

They are all committed to UCLA and all want to be one-and-done players (enter NBA draft after freshman season). I doubt Gelo will be able to do that.

Looking forward to the many instances of their father making an ass of himself when they're in the NBA.

How about back to this post. I agree with this. They understand the game on a meta-level pretty well and having no conscious and short memory is all part of the game plan.

Hmmm....

Well....

Both are Black
Both are "Big Dudes"
Both are Bald
Both have similar complexions

I think that's it tho. Facial features don't really match up but from the "both are pretty big black bald guys" perspective then yeah I guess they look A LOT alike.

Alright, so there is a huge showdown in the CIF Southern Section Open Division Playoffs tomorrow for the "Ball Stars". It's Chino Hills vs the long standing So Cal Powerhouse, Mater Dei with the 7 foot phenom Bol Bol. Chino Hills beat them by 11 back in December in a holiday tournament in Vegas but Bol wasn't cleared to play yet. Will Bol be enough to close the gap? We shall see. Game time is Friday 2/24 @ approx. 8:30 p.m. at The Galen Center on the campus of USC. It's the second game of a double-header with the other semi-finalists. Sierra Canyon and Bishop Montgomery play first at 7:00pm. Sierra Canyon boasts Marvin Bagley III who is the #1 recruit for TCO '18 per ESPN along with 3 other DI commits, Remy Martin(ASU), Cody Riley(UCLA) and Adam Seiko(San Diego State). Bishop Montgomery has Oregon State bound Ethan Thompson who is #49 on the ESPN 100 for TCO '17 and the highly sought after Jr, David Singleton III. It should be a great night of high school hoops! 4 of the nation's top 10 teams in one building. If anyone wants to meet up to watch the games then let me know via p.m. and we'll exchange contact info. I plan on being there in time for both.

Round 1 Mater Dei Highlights

Round 2 (Quarters) Chino Hills Highlights

December Match-Up Sans Bol Highlights
