i love how part of the basis of Trumps mindset is that China is a lawless corrupt black hole where you get 10 years for swiping a Louis Vuitton. Which is bad. But also good, because that is what should happen to ungrateful Big Ballers who don’t say thank you sir.

Two reasons not to say thanks:

1. I doubt he actually did anything of much consequence.

2. It's literally your job as the President to assist in the welfare of US citizens over international matters, especially when imprisonment is involved. Now usually it's someone in the Department of State handling the matter, but this is a fairly high profile case considering the media attention and it directly having an impact on a major institution of higher learning.

From the DoS website: "One of the highest priorities of the Department of State and U.S. embassies and consulates abroad is to provide assistance to U.S. citizens incarcerated abroad."

Most people don't get thanked often for doing their job, and they definitely don't make a fuss or demand gratitude from others when it doesn't happen.

No other President would pout like a 5 year old and say something absurd as "I should have left them in jail!" as that proves he does not care about helping citizens but rather he cares about continuing to stroke his ego. The players even thanked him, and he's only mad because someone with as big of an ego and as loud as he is won't.

And if I were LaVar, I'm definitely not saying thanks to him after saying he should've left my child in jail.

this tweet is pretty good.

I think it's actually scary to hear the President of the United States personally attack a citizen for being an "ungrateful fool." This is a serious question: why does that seem good to you?

What's "good" about it? It's not funny, it's not a good troll, it's too verbose, it barely makes sense, it's just a distraction from the middle class tax cuts hikes and is possibly the most insecure, beta baby back bitchmade tweet ever.

Also that interviewer really ****ing belabored the WHY DON'T YOU JUST APOLOGIZE point, Jesus.

I agree, seeing a president use the words "ungrateful fool" is really bizarre in a matter like this, but that's like #2,164 on the list of embarrassing things Trump's done as president.

Well, yeah.

Important note: the concept that citizens should be grateful to a public servant when the public servant provides a public service is itself contradictory and incoherent and pretty much outright insane. The alternative is the public servant refusing to serve the public unless the public provides enough outward gratitude to him.

Which would, of course, be an abdication of Constitutional duty.

Put differently, lol at a public servant threatening not to serve the public unless the public provides more genuflection to make him feel good.

Mainly because it's true? Even if it is his job (are you saying it's the president's duty to get law-breaking Americans out of custody?) why not thank him - the same way you thank the military - or the guy who fixes your computer - even though "it's their job."

the guy's just being a jackass.

You might have a point except the three students including LaVar's son already thanked him in their statements when they got back to the states last week.

If my kid was arrested in China for shop lifting I'd thank anyone who helped him return home even if it was a president I hated

When you're the ****ing leader of a nation why call out individual people for not thanking you? If the guy who fixes your computer calls you out for not thanking you for fixing it after you paid him to do so he obviously deserves derision and scorn for being an egomaniacal moron

Okay, but Trump didn't do ****. This crime as a first offense leads to deportation at worse every time.

I will forever LOL CUBES for not drafting Giannis.

Donnie Nelson practically begged Mark to draft him and he didn't, opting to trade down to save money in a pursuit of LOL Dwight Howard.

LaVar Ball: "He's not transferring to another school," he told ESPN. "The plan is now to get Gelo ready for the NBA Draft."
Quote:
“I’m going to make him way better for the draft that UCLA ever could have,” Ball told ESPN’s Darren Rovell.
