Through Week 5, and after the Riders' win, the West is now 11-2 vs. the East.

So I decided to make my own power rankings model for some fun to see what I would come up with and here's how it shakes down after week 5:

1. Edmonton (4-1)

New season, new coach and a full season for Mike Reilly. Edmonton looks like a legit team this year, particularly on the defensive side of the field. Almondo Sewell and Odell Willis are wreaking havoc on QBs and Reilly and Bowman look like a pretty scary tandem on offense

2. BC (2-3)

This probably comes as a surprise for most people to see BC come out second in my power rankings but this team is a very good team. I think my model is probably inflating them a bit because of their dominant win over a very ****ty Alouettes team but they are certainly better than their 2-3 record would suggest.

3. Calgary (4-0)

Most people would wonder how I don't have Calgary as the #1 team and I think the answer to that may lie in the fact that they've only played 4 games rather than 5 like the top 2 have and that probably influences the numbers that I ran. Having said that, I don't expect them to fall out of the top three any time soon and probably predict that they rise.

4. Toronto (1-4)

Yup, a 1-4 team is coming up 4th in my power rankings. After looking at some numbers I think we are seeing a Toronto team that is actually not that bad running pretty terrible in a few aspects. First off is that I believe they are running really bad wrt turnovers and also not being able to score TDs and having to settle for FGs instead. I certainly don't think they are a last place team like their record would suggest.

5. Winnipeg (4-1)

They are basically the anti-Toronto and seem to be over performing quite a bit.

6. Saskatchewan (2-2)

They have looked pretty impressive in their two wins but they have looked awful in their two losses.

7. Hamilton (1-3)

Last year's East champs haven't looked very good this year and finally got their first win this weekend against the expansion Ottawa Red Blacks, losing Burris probably hurt them quite a bit.

8. Ottawa (1-3)

You'd expect an expansion team to be bad their first year, and well they are.

9. Montreal (1-3)

Not much to say other than they are incredibly bad.

Well, Will Ford looks good in Green. FFS.

I know people are rarely traded in the CFL, but we could have got something for him.

Power rankings?

Calgary beat Edmonton, I thought pretty well.
I would put Winnipeg above Toronto, but Winnipeg isn't good, but if they keep winning it could just snowball.
What's with TO? I've never seen Ray look mediocre on a Canadian field.
Saskatchewan plays Winnipeg 3 times, which should change the standings.
BC could be better with Lulay, but the receivers drop everything.
I think Ottawa will be pretty good by the end of the year.
Hamilton should be better.

Sask

What are you doing here?

I was only half awake for the second half, and neither were the Bombers, I guess.

I hope they show it again tonight.

That was some catch by Feoli-Gudino, what a hit.

Is that at Bloomberg? There isn't much around there, but it is across the highway from the IcePlex.

Montreal looked pathetic tonight.

I say fire Higgins and bring back Dan Hawkins. Could he really be any worse than what they have now?

Ottawa got smashed by the Riders tonight. But at least they made SBNation for scoring the most CFL touchdown ever.

Crowd got taken out of the game early in this one. Burris had a rough night. When he wasn't overthrowing receivers, he started skipping the ball to them. Overall, the whole squad really looked like an expansion team tonight.

disappointing to see Ottawa trying to steal Portland's woodchopping gimmick

(in b4 "we've been doing that since aught-six" or whatever)

Updated Power rankings by SYF:

So I ran my little model that I've been working on and here are the results for week 6:

1. Edmonton (4-1) No Change

What happened: Nothing, they had a bye week and remain at top spot.

2. BC (3-3) No change

What happened: They beat the Stamps who were previously undefeated. A lot of people probably thought WTF at seeing my last week's power rankings showing BC at number two but I think the win against Calgary should remind people that BC are still a very good team.

3. Toronto (2-4) Last week #4

What happened: They beat the ****ty Alouettes but overall when I dig into the numbers, it appears that Toronto has been unlucky this year and are better than their 2-4 East leading record would indicate.

4. Calgary (4-1) Last week #3

What happened: They lost their first game of the season. I think that the fact that my model shows them as the number 4 team suggests that my power rankings may be flawed or maybe it shows that Calgary aren't as good as they appear.

5. Winnipeg (5-1) No change

What happened: They managed to beat the Ti-Cats on the last play of the game and are leading the CFL. This is the definition of a team running hot.

6. Saskatchewan (3-2) No change

What happened: A beat down of the Red Blacks may suggest they should be higher, but remember that they played the Red Blacks.

7. Hamilton (1-4) No change

What happened: The Ti-Cats made a nice comeback only to lose in the most soulcrushing fashion on the last play of the game against Winnipeg.

8. Ottawa (1-4) No change

What happened: They got spanked by the Riders and are in a battle with Montreal for last spot but simply by Montreal being worse they still sit in 8.

9. Montreal (1-4) No change

What happened: Another lopsided loss. These guys are awful.

Taj Smith will not play Thursday @ Winnipeg. He has violated a condition of his release & apparently the Riders have suspended him.
