and this reply had to do with "lights out" lidge not even getting a single out before allowing 3 hits AFTER a double play. instead of blowing aceshigh in your daily astros worshipping, get some reading comprehension skills, please.

Brad Lidge is fine. Monster home run shots like Pujols hit off him don't magically end careers.

Yes, really.

I will bet you any amount of money if you think Brad Lidge is "done" as a closer.
Haha, well timed Clark.

kyleb, I predict Clark will push here.
I will certainly call.

By the way, I owe you $40. Will you stop messing around and take my money, jeez.

Meh. Izzy sucks and always has.
Seriously? What basis of comparison are you using? He's been one of the NL's top 5 or 6 closers for a long time now.
Great. So he's *maybe* in the top third of one league, yet he's paid like he's in the top 5 of both leagues.

So can you. You're the one who said good closers don't let people on base and you don't have an appropriate respect for sabermetrics. You prefer to watch games and figure it out from that just like Joe Morgan.

As to the comment about Buehrle, I stand by it. He's one of those weird sinkerball pitchers that doesn't try to strike people out but instead tries to get them to hit ground balls and relies on his defense.

He's like Radke.

Re: Brad Lidge - rut roh

lol. when did i say they never let people on base? i say they try not to. that's their job.

appropriate respect for sabermetrics? from what i gather from your posts you spit out numbers and figures and have no clue what they mean.

Re: Brad Lidge - rut roh

ok so maybe i said they don't. well they try not to, that's what i meant. i thought it would be obvious that i know there's no known closer with a WHIP of 0.

It wasn't a save situation

When coming into a tie game with the runner on third and one out, I am quite happy with allowing a walk to put a runner on first and set up the double play rather than pitching down the middle and having the batter hit a sac fly or an infield grounder to take the lead.

Lidge did what he needed to do. If Berkman makes that play which he should have the inning is over and the game is still tied.
Obviously you watched the game, I haven't, I can only look at the box score and some highlights online, but I haven't seen the play in question yet, the thing about this is the fact that Berkman wasn't charged with an error and all 3 runs allowed by Lidge were earned.

And at that point the Stros are still only down 1 run. Lidge goes on to throw a wild pitch and give up two hits to let the Natties push the lead to 4, putting the game pretty far out of reach...So he didn't do what he needed to do. Even if he lets the inherited runner score (or Berkman did, doesn't matter) he shouldn't allow an additional 3 runners to cross home. His job was to keep his team in the game, and he failed...

First of all, Joe Morgan rules. He has respect for the game and plays it the way it was meant to be played, with stolen bases and bunt singles. Let's not mention that Joe Morgan's best trait was his walk rate and ability to hit for power, and that his speed was a secondary trait. Never mention the fact that Joe Morgan walked a lot during his career, since that is just clogging the goddamned bases.

Second of all, Dusty Baker rules. I am sick and tired of people like you making fun of him.

Third of all, sabermetrics are bunch of numbers for sissy-ass pansies who don't know how to play baseball and think everything can be measured, like the average runs scored with runners on second and third with 2 outs and a .285 EqA batter at the plate or how many runs is equivalent to a expected win. Come on, that's a bunch of [censored] and you know it.

What the [censored] is EqA anyway, that's a total [censored] stat along with UZR. Back in the day they used Batting Average and Fielding Percentage, and that was good enough.

Bunch of nancy-boy [censored] is what you all are.

Well, you're right about that. I don't know if he got flustered after that or if he just didn't have it, but he didn't look good after that.

I know sarcasm doesn't translate well over the Internet, but damn, I can't imagine anyone saying that and meaning it.

stros fans will point to that and to lidge's # of saves and say he's awesome.

who don't love that 1.51 whip? who don't love it. that's real good for a closer.

I bet he is still affected by the Pujols HR. Him coming off the DL kept him up all night.

Who in their right mind will say Lidge is awesome right now? I'm an Astros fan and I'm not running around yelling Lidge for Cy Young or anything.

Even if the 'Stros hold on to win this one, wow. Giving up a grand slam in the 9th isn't exactly something you shrug off. Byun-Yung Kim says hi.

Brad Lidge's job is to get saves. He's got 19 of those, and he's only blown 3. What's wrong with that? Really?
