Not a great start given how dominant he's been in recent years. Nomar last night and blew another one tonight. His last 5 games have not been up to par at all and his season ERA is basically 7 now.

One has to wonder how much last year's postseason is affecting him. Between the horrific World Series and Pujols' moon shot it's not out of the realm that he could be damaged goods.

This was discussed in last year's NLCS thread. At the time, I thought the homer wouldn't be so bad as long as the Astros still made it to the World Series. But, it's always hard to tell how that kind of psychological blow will be handled by any particular player.

Last year's NLCS thread.

By the way, I linked to the post where I called the homer just seconds before it happened. Too bad I spelled "hire" wrong.

I still hate Minute Maid Park

and I definitely hate the Astros for not beating the White Sox....their 3,672 fans are beyond annoying, which makes sense since they are second rate to Cub fans (that's low)

I wouldn't put too much into it. Lidge's command and control have been off. Relievers go through these things; Rivera and Cordero, to name two others, have also struggled early this year.

I'm not so sure. Relievers and closers in particular seem to have a tendancy to fall off of a cliff and never recover when you least expect it. I'm not saying this is the case here but if it is it certainly wouldn't be the first or even rare.

Re: Brad Lidge - rut roh

The fact is that the Astros won the series against the Cards so there was "no harm" from Pujols' blast in that it didn't cost the Astros. So, in that sense, it shouldn't be weighing heavily on Lidge.

Nobody can be sure, I agree. But when a player struggles, I wouldn't be so quick to assign psychological problems as the cause. All players slump; closers' slumps are more visible in that the game's on the line virtually every time they go out there.

Aces,
Remember that game last year down the stretch when Biggio cranked a three-run homer off of Wags to win the game in Philly? That game was cool. I don't think Wagner recovered from that bomb to his good friend, for the duration of 2005. That hit pretty much burried the Phills last year.

I Biggio.
I remember that one. You're right. That was an awesome home run.

I've been wondering when someone was going to bring this up. Is he still not closing? Where's Aces when you need him?

I'm sure he'll be around. He's likely busy sucking some other Houston player's nuts in another thread at the moment. Give him a sec.

I think it's Mike Lamb in the move Houston to the AL West thread...

Ah, I think you are right. I thought it was T-Mac the kickass baseball player at heart. My bad.

He's always good for a laugh, plus he is a pretty good source of valid information. If you just take anything he says, the exact opposite is probably true.

I'ts not going well for Rivera either. Or Baez. Doesn't mean Albert has anything to do with it.

If Lidge is done (and that's certainly unlikely), I guarantee you it won't be just me who thinks it was due to Albert's moonshot.

I really don't think that is the case. bad mechanics and imperfect slider control, fine. It's not from the whiplash.

Whiplash.

I'm pretty sure White Sox fans are happy that Albert sent him into orbit.

Yeah we get it. You like that home run.

Years from now scientists will look back on that AMAZINGOMGZ!!111!! homerun and they will study the way Albert swung the bat when, lo and behold, his smoothness in stride will lead to them curing cancer and AIDS on the same day.

Re: Brad Lidge - rut roh

Why would a guy be suffering psychologically when his team won the series? I might be persuaded if he felt he blew the pennant.
