No, Mr. Amaro, you're not.

For someone who doesn't care about baseball at all but is still aware of the Lidge situation: what happened? Big save in the world series?

48/48 in save chances this season, basically perfect for the phils all year long.

currently holding the second longest consecutive save streak.

tied for most saves in one postseason.

lights out, confidence, phils perfect leading after eight, etc.

weeeeeeeeee!

12 inches from blowing it. Ray on 2nd with 1 down, liner hit to right, but it hangs enough to be caught. Hinske looks pathetic next batter, and the Philthies win the Series.

I don't think the Astros are willing to give him a couple of seasons of screwing up. Thing is in baseball and other sports, there is no real long term with a lot of players who are blowing games. This guy has been blowing games, I'm not a Astros fan (Braves fan) but I know I get quickly frustrated with closers blowing it. I don't have a reason of why he's doing is mosdef (I don't follow the Stros) but I don't think the Stros are willing to wait long term as seen by there early switch of the closer after a terrible previous season.
Wait a little longer IMO.

Bourn can flat out play. He's got wheels and can cover that huge center field. He'll allow Pence to move to right and forever send Jason Lane to purgatory.
LOL. Bourn can flat out run, not much else.

I guess he'll just have to not blow any saves then.

I said at the beginning of the year, "I hope Lidge gets off to a good start (I was thinking like 8 for his first 8). That way he builds confidence and gets the Philly fans on his side. Then he can have a good year (I was thinking like 36/40)."

My god. 48/48. Didn't see that one coming. Lidge.

80/08

Awesome thread.

It's funny guys, do you remember Lidge's first save oppurtunity? I'll paint the picture - It was a day game at Cincinatti, bottom of the ninth, bases are loaded, full count to Javier Valentine. Lidge had really struggled with his command in the inning and I would be lying if I said I had confidence in him at this point. Well, he throws a fastball that is clearly off the plate, a good six inches. Wouldn't you know it, the umpire decided to call it a strike and the Phillies go on to win. Since then, I have often wondered if the Phillies would be world champs if the ump rings him up. Confidence is a hell of a thing.

It's amazing how the Phillies went from being a fringe playoff team to World Champions in 1 year.

Let's see what changed:

Oh yeah, they got a cheap, world-class closer (Lidge) and a super-sub (Bruntlett) for a POS speedy A-ball level player (Bourn) an above-average middle-reliever (Geary) and a fat minor leaguer (Costanzo).

Thanks Drayton and Ed Wade.

Can't wait for the big Berkman + cash for Iwamura trade next season!!!
