I don't know. Public sentiment is pretty split. Kind of want to just go sit in my car and listen to the local sportstalk radio, to see what they have to say. Two days ago, they were blowing him on air for what a badass he was going to practice and having a presser two days after the incident. I'm still they are still supporters. As a local newsman said last night while killing time before the press conference, "At the end of the day he's 21 and 5 in the last two years, and has got the Hogs into a BCS game."

I disagree with it not being a black eye on the university. It's not the worst of scandals, but it definitely does not reflect positively on the school.

she supposedly has a marketing and finance degree and an MBA. along with being a former "all-time" Arkansas women's volleyball player and her looks, her resume pretty much screams AD fundraiser. ofc banging petrino played some part, but they're covered on the employment issue imo.

He scored a 4 on the Wonderlic at the NFL Combine, allegedly.

This is an extremely low score, and calls into question if he might be mentally handicapped to some degree. Vince Young went through the same thing (think I remember him scoring a 6), and time has shown that he might, in fact, be mentally handicapped to some degree.

OTOH, I have seen statistical results showing an inverse correlation between Wonderlic scores and some measure of professional success (don't remember what was used be it INTs/passes defended/pro bowls) at the DB position. So at his specific position, history has told us that the "dumber" you are, the better pro you are likely to be.

Petrino's a huge POS.

He ran out on UofL after saying he wasn't going anywhere and how he was dedicated to building their football program.

He ran out on Atlanta after saying he wasn't going anywhere and how he was dedicated to building their franchise into a SB contending team.

The guy has no morals and only cares about himself.

I hope he gets fired. **** him.

is anyone afraid Petrino will have diminished faculties?

head injuries are funny things. People lose drive sometimes as well as fatigue, memory loss, etc.

The question isnt "Can they fire him because of this?" its "MUST they fire a guy they otherwise probably want leading their football team?"
I was responding to a post expressing confusion over why he would be fired. It would not be surprising, at all, if he got fired for sleeping with a subordinate and then promoting her. I get he's a valuable person to the university, but that doesn't give him carte blanche to sleep with subordinates ffs and then promote them under questionable circumstances.

You might disagree, but there are people in a higher position than he is that care about figureheads opening the university to high-profile sexual harassment suits and controversy. And this isn't even getting into lying to the police and the university. The board of trustees might actually care about the university's image.

Do they have to fire him? Of course they don't have to. But it wouldn't be surprising. Like, at all.

i am kind of confused as to how someone with no interpersonal skills can be a successful head coach

Well, he can fool a bunch of 18-year-old kids and one 25-year-old chick, I guess as a college coach that's all you need

point is that it's fine for an employer to say "i/we reserve the right to fire you if you make me/us look bad"

edit: not saying i'd fire him. i wouldn't

Why would they want to fire him over an affair with a 25-year old that works for the team? It's not like he did anything illegal or involved the university in any way, it just seems like the damage to the reputation of the university and the football program from this story is basically nil, whereas the value of keeping the most successful coach since the 80s would be huge.
This, the UoA doesn't want to fire him. That is the last thing they WANT to do. If there is much more, then they might be forced to do just that, but I guarantee that they will not be trying to get out of their contract with him.

I mean I'll hand it to the SEC, they don't even pretend to care about anything other than winning games. They'll admit anyone, pay them 6 figures, and hire and retain scumbags to coach them as long as the results are there.

If we're really lucky, there's another great twist that makes this even more lol-tastic. It's a definite possibility.

Unfounded speculation:

He was paying the woman?

There are several more women promoted who he sexed?

They found cocaine on him?

And that's why we are the best damn conference in the land.

I like the post a few before this about not wanting to fire Petrino. I'd say it is very accurate. If they wanted to fire him, why not just do it last night. We're in full scale "building a case so he can stay" mode.

Here's my twist: This wasn't the woman he was having an affair with. I don't think this is true, but that statement he released is so vaguely worded I think you could reasonably* read it as he didn't want to say that he was on the motorcycle with this woman, because it would lead to further digging in his life that would uncover his ACTUAL affair.

*ok maybe not reasonably, but it could be read that way because he doesn't identify her as the person he had an inappropriate relationship with.

I mean 50+ dudes with 4 kids banging 25 year olds generally arent people who just do it one time. Could easily be a Tiger situation where they start coming out of the woodwork, but again SEC FOOTBAW will discourage them from coming forward.

Of course the AD doesn't want to get rid of Petrino from a football perspective, but he's gotta feel like his hand is being forced here. Remember, Petrino made him look like a feckless jackass by flat lying to him about the accident and the hire right up until "minutes before the police report was issued." Not just at the press conference, but in several private conversations between the two of them, where the AD specifically asked if anyone else was involved in the accident. I bet the first thing he said during the delayed confession was, "WTF is wrong with you?" while he mentally replayed every reassuring conversation he'd had with a BoT member since the accident.

The only thing like this in the SEC I can remember is Mike DuBose (shudder) at Alabama who also lied to his AD until confessing about an affair with his secretary who sued the university and won. That AD did not fire DuBose (who had just won an SEC title), but he did get fired for not firing DuBose. So, there's that.

Yes, but I don't see that as similar just because Price had not coached a single game at Alabama and in fact had not yet even signed his contract.

Also, Price's behavior (at least as alleged) called into question even his sanity or non-******edness. Petrino's behavior does not make me think he's insane.
