Oh right. I forgot Bammer's 4 titles when there were no polls:

http://sauriansagacity.blogspot.pt/2...mpionship.html

How can anyone deny you the 1941 title: The "Football Thesaurus" national championship? Now that doesn't sound like "any old poll!" Some people might think this is egregious, but I think "Football Thesaurus" got it right. The AP voters from that year are the ones who should be embarrassed:

1 Minnesota Gophers 8-0
2 Duke Blue Devils 9-0
3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 8-0-1
4 Texas Longhorns 7-1-1
5 Michigan Wolverines 6-1-1
6 Fordham Rams 7-1
7 Missouri Tigers 8-1
8 Duquesne Dukes 8-0
9 Texas A&M Aggies 8-1
10 Navy Midshipmen 7-1-1
11 Northwestern Wildcats 5-3
12 Oregon State Beavers 7-2
13 Ohio State Buckeyes 6-1-1
14 Georgia Bulldogs 8-1-1
15 Pennsylvania Quakers 7-1
16 Mississippi State Bulldogs 7-1-1
17 Mississippi Rebels 6-2-1
18 Tennessee Volunteers 8-2
19 Washington State Cougars 6-3
20 *Alabama Crimson Tide 8-2

*National ****ing champions

I yield. It's not a joke whatsoever.

The only year you've actually mentioned as "bogus" was 1973. But in 1973 the national championship was decided before bowls were played. Trying to change the rules after the fact goes against pretty much anything that might even remotely qualify as "common sense."

The only title that alabama actually claims that might be considered questionable is 1941. The other 13 are solid.

cliffnotes: lol @ u, haters gonna hate
...except we don't claim those years as national titles. So it's not quiiiiite as laughable. Nice try.

Your argument of "Well what national titles would you claim if you were using our joke of a system? Oh, yeah, well those are a joke too!" is kind of comical.

So we've got a grand total of 1 questionable claim.

orson clapping dot gif

but congrats on the magnificent goalpost shift

Spoiler:
BTW: even under bama's generous criteria, barn still has the EXACT SAME number of titles it has now

Under "strict" rules:

Bama 13
Barn 2

Under SUPER LOL LAX BAMA RULES:

Bama 14
Barn 2

I believe if you eliminate backwards-declared (by several years) national titles by "new" polling entities then you have between 5 and 7 nattys depending on whether you want to count split awards. The last 4 are legit.

Some of the difference is obvious screw jobs, though.

No sense in squabbling, with the clusterf**k that's been the mythical "national championhips" in college football it's all been said before. The wikipedia article is a good reference

Well, right off the bat, the four before anybody had ever even used the phrase, "National Championship" and none of the players or coaches even had the concept in mind. You've already agreed on '41, So now there's two others I'd need to look up. Those were probably the screw jobs, along with '66 which for some reason we've never found a way to claim.

I made the 'rural with one city' post and sure didn't mean to derail the hoez 'n gifs. Also didn't mean to tangent anyone into ****ing regression analysis of demographics or anything.

What I was getting at, and was pretty clearly explained in one of the posts above, is that yeah, Arkansas has a small population to draw on = little recruiting base (also has a large swath of "**** football we play basketball" territory ala Kentucky or Indiana) and how do we ever expect to win a national championship given that. The post said 'ask Nebraska' with is in a pretty similar situation but dominated for years. OK, Lincoln and Omaha are a lot bigger than Little Rock, really sorry I mentioned it, thanks for the ho pics we can move on now.
