On December 10, 2007, with the Falcons languishing in the NFC South cellar with a 3-10 record, Petrino resigned his position in Atlanta the day after pledging his commitment to owner Arthur Blank, to succeed Houston Nutt as the Arkansas Razorbacks head coach. Petrino informed his players of his decision to resign via four-sentence laminated note left at the locker of each player.
LOL @ this, never heard that part of the story before.

What damages could Arkansas be on the hook for over the hiring of his mistress? If he just picked her out of the ~160 applicants without picking any other finalists, what can any of the other applicants claim? They still had 158 other applicants to compete with, and presumably they can reapply for the job now that it's open again, what harm could they sue over?

Jeff Long was pretty clear last night about this being an Affirmative Action position, so I'm guessing it's some sort of violation of that. The handbook isn't very clear on the policy though, and their specific site (oeoc.uark.edu) doesn't have a whole lot of info either.

But does any specific applicant have a valid case? It seems like something that maybe the state employment board would look at, although given how quickly Arkansas moved to fire Petrino, and presumably the girl too, who knows whether they did enough to cover their asses. I missed the first post saying that diddy's friend actually got an interview and didn't just apply for the job, but even so, even if she sued, would she be able to legally get anything considering she never had anything concrete?

Really getting a strong vibe this girl is sleeping with one of her professors. That and somewhere in there is lurking a great pickup line for you to use.

Ms Dorrell herself can sue Arky for sexual harassment because they have a rule against relationships between supervisors and employees. And I'm pretty sure her consent is not a defense.

I'm pretty sure Jeff Long said last night there is no such rule. From my understanding of the press conference:

The relationship itself was not an issue

Creating the job (which directly reported to him) and having his mistress apply for the job was not an issue

Not disclosing the relationship during the hiring phase, which created a conflict of interest, was the issue.

........
Salacious, unsubstantiated rumor that could take this to the next level: 20k pay-off was for an abo.
