This is a great picture. Either the photographer thought it was an awesome pose, or he was just like **** it, let's see what dumb **** I can get this broad to do. All fours in the creek, now!

These are all stories out there in the ether but mainly unconfirmed that I'll just not take at face value, thank you. There is a cottage industry for rumors around football programs right now; people pay for dirt--I believe many of them are the same boosters who used to directly pay players themselves, hell now they're not even committing a violation!!! But they really don't give a **** if it's true or not and the people selling the stories have bills to pay. There are always rumors about a number of star players on every team, it seems all anybody wants to do is dismiss the ones about their own team and believe all the others.

You may recall I took exactly the same position with the Cam Newton story, so don't think I'm just a homer. I would still like to hear the tape where Cam "confesses" to, evidently, Dan Mullen's wife about getting too much money from Auburn. You do remember how that was an indisputable fact of that story, right?
I know you're not a homer and you made a lot of good posts in the cam newton thread. I don't want to argue bama/auburn in this thread. I just can't let a comment about Saban cleaning up bama's program slide when I know what I know about it.

Fair enough. I know what it was like 20 years ago, and 10 years ago. I would be shocked today to find out through court documents that 'Bama had won a half million dollar bidding war among half the SEC for a defensive lineman. Even more shocked if it turned out 'Bama compliance had conducted an Ohio State-style laughable investigation. Back then, not so much.

the whole nitty and stupid debate about cities/population/bama ignored the real problem - arkansas is not a tier 2 school. They're not in the top 25, maybe top 30. And if we're including non-top 25 teams in tier 2, you need to revise your tiers.

OK, good. Now, how many do you think Bama "legitimately" has?

I have no idea. I just know some of them are a joke. In the 70s ND and Bama were undefeated and met in a bowl and ND won. And Bama claims the national title! WTF?!

So, give me the criteria that leads to "some" of bama's claims being "a joke" but also gives the barn "8-10".

grunching, but serious lol at comparing Nebraska and Kansas to Ohio and Michigan. I don't think people realize exactly how rural the stretch from Kansas north to North Dakota is.

After the next census, Nebraska will be down to 2 congressional districts: Omaha, and the entire rest of the state. Seriously.

i do, but even as a shorthand it's easy to look at this and understand that the rust belt is way more populated than the corn belt

The criteria is common sense. If two undefeated teams meet in a bowl game, the team that loses doesn't win the national championship.

Okay, I looked on wiki and Auburn has had 12 undefeated seasons and 8 "national titles" if you count any old poll as a national title. So I was pretty close.

Here's another way to look at it. Would anyone not leave his T2 for Arky? Would a coach rather stay at Sparty, UCLA, or Clemson? I think the entire OMG SEC thing makes it a slightly upward move.

FYI, Alabama doesn't "count any old poll as a national title". So no, you're not pretty close.

Using "common sense" would eliminate two of the four barner "titles" you listed (2004, when Auburn didn't qualify for the national championship under the rules they had previously agreed to, and 1993, when they were on probation and a post-season ban). 1983 would not be counted under the criteria that Alabama uses, either.

The only year you've actually mentioned as "bogus" was 1973. But in 1973 the national championship was decided before bowls were played. Trying to change the rules after the fact goes against pretty much anything that might even remotely qualify as "common sense."

The only title that alabama actually claims that might be considered questionable is 1941. The other 13 are solid.

cliffnotes: lol @ u, haters gonna hate
