Why would they want to fire him over an affair with a 25-year old that works for the team? It's not like he did anything illegal or involved the university in any way, it just seems like the damage to the reputation of the university and the football program from this story is basically nil, whereas the value of keeping the most successful coach since the 80s would be huge.
The reasons promoted for firing him:
a) He brought this lady in from another dept. at school, to work directly under him (ba-da-dum). All evidence shows that she was very competent at her old job, so this position change might have been warranted strictly based on performance, but it looks really ****ty now
b) He directly and repeatedly lied about her involvement in the accident.
c) (Personally for me) apologize like a man, dammit. Or don't, be like, "Yea I hit that". Whatever, just don't have the damn university to pass around an apology at a press conference that you aren't attending
d) Malzahn. It's not going away. The noise is just going to build.
