The reasons promoted for firing him:
a) He brought this lady in from another dept. at school, to work directly under him (ba-da-dum). All evidence shows that she was very competent at her old job, so this position change might have been warranted strictly based on performance, but it looks really ****ty now

b) He directly and repeatedly lied about her involvement in the accident.

c) (Personally for me) apologize like a man, dammit. Or don't, be like, "Yea I hit that". Whatever, just don't have the damn university to pass around an apology at a press conference that you aren't attending

d) Malzahn. It's not going away. The noise is just going to build.

If he had a preexisting sexual relationship with this woman, and helped her get a job at a public university without disclosing that fact, then it very much involves the university and may well break some laws too.

I don't think they want to fire him, although you never know with some of these college presidents. It's a question of whether they think he's worth the trouble of any potential civil suits resulting from retaining him.

Some local news station posted the letter of intent for his current contract. It's non-binding, but there are some interesting provisions that I guess probably made their way into the finalized contract. Under Section 6, it looks like he could be on the hook for a ****ton of money, but I could be reading it wrong. But nothing in there of a morality contract or the like.

Also, completely non-relevant in the terms of potentially firing him (because it invalidates the clause) but I found it interesting that he had a covenant not to compete with the entire SEC. Meaning that he, per contract, could not have taken a job with another SEC school while the contract was effective. Wonder if that would hold up? Studied a lot about covenants being struck down for being overly broad geographically, and this is like orders of magnitude larger of an area then the ones that were struck down for this reason. You out there, karak?

Why make it like anytime anything happens the administration are just DYING to fire him and scrounging around for any possible excuse to do so? Sure, they probably can fire him no problem for this, but why would they want to? This isnt some huge black eye for the university, who gives a **** about this?

Somewhere where employees are actually somewhat valuable and not instantly replaceable? I mean, at some point they HIRED Petrino, right? Presumably they thought he was better than the alternatives. Its not like, before this incident, they were dying to fire him and couldnt think of an excuse. The question isnt "Can they fire him because of this?" its "MUST they fire a guy they otherwise probably want leading their football team?"

In 2009 our football revenue was 56 million, in 2011 it was 89 million. All of that is from Petrino. If he is fired, it's because there wasn't any other choice.

It's the same reason Pitino wasn't fired at Louisville. They knew he was the best they could get.
