I think you have a good shot at an Ohio State RB getting in the mix of Offensive Player of the Year. Very strong offensive line. New QB who won't be trusted to throw that much, but should be good enough to at least keep people from cheating too much. Right now there is a stable, but I think you'll see one guy emerge as the guy, then get pretty good stats on the year.

I hope I'm wrong but I covered Vandy in high school and even though he's performed admirably at times I don't think he has what it takes to be elite in the B1G. He'll be helped because Iowa should have a nasty running game that will enhance PA but if he gets in a situation where he has to command and make things happen I see him performing like Stanzi in '09, with the difference being that his mistakes will come from lack of arm strength as opposed to decision making.

I guess its good for recruiting that everyone thinks Pat Fitzgerald is the second coming of Vince Lombardi, I just don't get how it started. Its not like he resurrected Northwestern football from the dead, they were bowl eligible the 3 years before he took over while playing much tougher non-conference schedules.

Everyone knows "coach of the year" is most easily won by not recruiting well, having low expectations, and then surpassing those low expectations quite a bit. Forget the whole "build a powerhouse" route, you gotta set the bar low and then hurdle over it. Mostly a pointless award.

Well, Northwestern's coach never gets the grief for how poor the recruiting is. Thus, if they do anything good, it's considered a major coup. NW dominating COTY stuff over the last 15 years. The perception, which has been quite wrong over that time period, is that they are a 1-7 or 2-6 Big Ten team. They finish above that almost all the time.

Whatever, I'm still trying to figure out how Fitzgerald won DPOY over Rice or Hardy.

Sorry, not the place for it. The Fitzgerald DPOY in '95 always bothered me. It was a vote for the hard-working white guy stereotype. Hardy and Rice went 2nd and 3rd in the NFL draft overall. Rice demolished the Big Ten sack record with 44.5 (previous top was 36). Hardy wins the Butkus. The Illini defense scored a mess of TDs that year and propped up one of the worst offenses I can remember. Sigh, the honor that rightfully belonged to Rice or Hardy going instead to some white dude that filled his role well in making the tackles the defense designed him to do, but who added nothing beyond that, was sickening.
