Didnt know what thread to put this in, but this one was the first one I saw paging through that seemed to be a valid place.

Maurice Clarett was arrested today for DWI. This isnt really a remarkable story to anyone who knows who Maurice Clarett is, and it isnt an interesting one to anyone who didnt, but the reason it struck me as post-worthy is mostly because its a weird coincidence. Just yesterday I was thinking about him for honestly I have no ****ing clue what reason, and so I looked up his story, watched the Youngstown Boys 30 for 30, and spent some time reading what he's been up to. For those who dont really know or remember, a brief synopsis:

Elite freshman college RB, set some school records during freshman year at OSU, helped them win a National Championship. Then was dismissed from team for a variety of reasons including academic fraud, disruptive behavior, and making up some story about being robbed of 10k worth of stuff that never happened and being charged with filing false report. Basically became a ****head after that but was somehow still drafted 2 years later in the 3rd round but was a bust in the NFL. Then he ended up getting arrested with a ****load of guns including like some AKs and was drunk and wearing body armor at the time, sentenced to 3 years in prison. Finally released, and went on to play some semi-pro football in a few different places but never caught on. So then he somehow gets a gig going around to schools and giving speeches about how he turned his life around, found god, and talking about the perils of being a college athlete. He spoke at FSU, Bama, OSU, he spoke to the Kentucky BBall team, a bunch of pretty high profile places, and was paid tens of thousands of dollars to give these speeches. He was considered a major inspiration and was writing books etc.

And now he is arrested for DWI. I think stories like this are so fascinating because clearly he had some serious adversity in his life, clearly his frame of reference is so much different than it must be for most of us, he had so much talent, was given so many opportunities, "turned his life around" and yet still we wind up back here. Its hard to know what to make of this, and I dont think there is really any message, I just think its absolutely fascinating.

I defer to wiper here as he's much closer to the situation than anybody else. I'm actively rooting for Maurice and was genuinely sad to hear this. Everyone struggles. Everyone has shortcomings. But he seemed to be trying hard to influence the next generation positively. And that's something I can get behind.
