guess they really like Pouliot?
i mean idk, yeah maybe winger is a medium-term need given that Neal is their only real top end guy, but wingers are easy enough to come by, and by far the least important position, especially if you have great centers, like Pittsburgh does. and if they're trying to clear cap to sign Parise then there's another one. Forsberg might have been a nice piece to have there in 3-5 years, but oh well. obv don't need a center right now given they're slotted fine with Sid, Geno, Sutter. guess they're good with Flower/Vokoun in net for now.
D prob is the biggest short and medium term need, especially after they gave away Michalek. if they can give away Martin then maybe they can try to sign both Parise AND Suter, ugh. but still D not super strong with Letang, Orpik, Martin, Engelland, Lovejoy, etc. but they are now loaded with good D prospects in Morrow, Despres, Harrington, and now Pouliot & Maatta as well. plus they also got this Brian Dumoulin guy from Carolina, and Harrison Ruopp from Phoenix in those deals. don't know how good either of those guys are, but i'm guessing they'll probably be pretty set on D in 3-5 years.
is it an overreaction to the Philly series? maybe. i mean maybe they can take Forsberg or someone at 8 if they know that Maatta will be there later, but they prob didn't expect that to be the case. or they just
really like Pouliot and don't care. but yeah, i guess that's the pick that could end up looking really good/bad in a few years, bc it didn't seem totally necessary to go D.
