Yeah I know absolutely nothing about him so I was just snarking, but you'd think playing 41 games there would be a puck that would bounce off your ass for an assist or something. Just found it funny.

The Monster era is over in Toronto.

Rights traded to Winnipeg for a conditional 7th rounder next year.

Habs just drafted a 5'8" GOQB to appease the masses.

Dunno, same reason people relied tweets that Joel Ward received in the playoffs.

A WC scout said the habs "owned" the draft. All players were in his top 50. Two years until their prospects run in fear from the Habs faithful

Re: NHL Offseason 2012 Thread

lolLeafs?:

"The psychological evaluation he did was really off the charts," Burke said, noting Rielly's posture, maturity and eye contact. "They said [he had] leadership skills, self-starter, doesn't require extensive coaching [and] if he's put in a situation where he's got to make decisions he'll make the right ones.

best player in the draft due to great posture & eye contact in meetings.

Matt Duchene re-signs for 2 years, at just $3.5m per, still RFA afterwards? doesn't that seem like super, duper low and weird? wtf

actually, didn't realize he had such a crap year last season. something to be worried about with him? contract seems to suggest they're not sold on him, and he's willing to take that salary, on that term, and still be RFA at the end? strange...

It's def not the same reason and I think you know that. The Joel Ward thing was an actual story, this is just you throwing dirt on Boston.

It'd be like if I started posting isolated incidents of vandalism in Vancouver. People (specifically our Canucks fans ITT) would be like "wtf are you posting that for?" And rightfully so.

BUt nah, if you did that, there would be some romantic couple stealing the show from your vandalism photos.

guess they really like Pouliot?

i mean idk, yeah maybe winger is a medium-term need given that Neal is their only real top end guy, but wingers are easy enough to come by, and by far the least important position, especially if you have great centers, like Pittsburgh does. and if they're trying to clear cap to sign Parise then there's another one. Forsberg might have been a nice piece to have there in 3-5 years, but oh well. obv don't need a center right now given they're slotted fine with Sid, Geno, Sutter. guess they're good with Flower/Vokoun in net for now.

D prob is the biggest short and medium term need, especially after they gave away Michalek. if they can give away Martin then maybe they can try to sign both Parise AND Suter, ugh. but still D not super strong with Letang, Orpik, Martin, Engelland, Lovejoy, etc. but they are now loaded with good D prospects in Morrow, Despres, Harrington, and now Pouliot & Maatta as well. plus they also got this Brian Dumoulin guy from Carolina, and Harrison Ruopp from Phoenix in those deals. don't know how good either of those guys are, but i'm guessing they'll probably be pretty set on D in 3-5 years.

is it an overreaction to the Philly series? maybe. i mean maybe they can take Forsberg or someone at 8 if they know that Maatta will be there later, but they prob didn't expect that to be the case. or they just really like Pouliot and don't care. but yeah, i guess that's the pick that could end up looking really good/bad in a few years, bc it didn't seem totally necessary to go D.

Re: NHL Offseason 2012 Thread

yeah idk, thought i heard something where they could both go there as a package deal, but it's probably BS

i mean i don't even think they could afford both, unless someone takes Martin from them. and i don't think anyone wants to be doing that.

Re: NHL Offseason 2012 Thread

i think martin would definitely move. don't know why people are so down on him, i know he had a rough season but he is a really underrated defender.

i think they could definitely both end up there, the money's there for it. it would really hamstring the penguins' depth.
