Relax, NHL plays around with draft board for practice. There's been no trade between BUF and TOR.

what universe am i living in where 10-60 is a great offer for jordan staal - if he went to UFA, dude would get 7/56 imo

let's not forget that Staal doesn't turn 24 until September. He's still really young and a 10 year deal shouldn't bring him to the end of his career unless he has injury trouble.

Stamkos signed for 7.5M, you really think Staal should get 8M?

But isn't Stamkos orders of magnitude better than Staal to make up the difference in free agency status?

well iirc, stamkos didn't even have arb rights, so that's part of the equation

stamkos had no arb rights and as far as i know, couldn't drum up any sort of offer sheet for himself. his options were to sign the contract, which is pretty fair, or hold out.

staal would get an enormous offer if he were UFA this year, obviously he isn't, but i don't think a center that young and that good has ever made it to UFA.

Howson wants Couture+ for Nash.
IS THAT MAN COMPLETELY HIGH?

Why in the world would JStaal sign now? He's made 10M+, he's 24, who knows what the cba rules will be.
take another run with Pitt, then choose your fate.
Very rarely do I understand top players foregoing their ufa.

Luckily I'm not sure what else he could find from San Jose.

A couple of weeks back someone named Gabe from Behind the Net was on The Illegal Curve Hockey Show, he had lots of interesting things to say. He made a comment that was cut-off and riffed on by the host, "A million dollars goes further in Montreal than in Calgary."

The host assumed he meant the cost of living in Calgary is so high, but I'm wondering if he meant the cost of talent is higher.

He also said you shouldn't pay for goaltending, 6 goals = 1 win, and players in the free-agency pool cost $1,000,000 per win.

If 6 goals = 1 win, does 10 shots = 1 goal and 60 shots = 1 win? If you compare a .900 goalie to a .910 goalie over 50 games, 30 shots per game, that's about 15 goals, or 2 1/2 wins.

Goaltending really is black magic. With a lesser goaltender you would expect a team to adjust to limit the quality of scoring chances and mitigate the goalie's save percentage. Are goalies better and worse than the distribution in stats?

I read an interview in the Winnipeg Free Press with Marcel Comeau, head of amateur scouting for the Jets, and I found this answer concerning, "I guess everybody looks at different things." "I always thought character is a very desired commodity in a player."

What is expected of a teenager? Maybe that's just something that is said.

The problem is we have a decent arsenal of offensive weapon. nash isn't completely necessary to san jose. Especially at the price nash wants. We're in need of more solid defense and prospects. couture and pavs more the make up for not having nash.

They also had some scatterbrain on avoiding questions about the impact of the Jets on downtown. Downtown is in a prolonged battle-royal of history, decay and development. It is filled with parking lots and Chicago-style architecture. The large number old buildings were very expensive, it took almost 100 years of stagnation to collect them, and now there is a rush to tear them all down.

They didn't ask Gabe about the politics and economics of San Francisco. I read that California has shutdown its redevelopment agencies.

All of this...but the way this league is trending wrt injuries, if I was Papa Staal, I'd say sign the ****ing thing.

But yeah, big skill guys down the middle are the golden geese 2/3rds of the league don't have and make no mistake that Jordan would cash in huge if he got to UFA. Doesn't really matter if you think he's worth it or not - his position comes at a premium and he'd get paid accordingly.

The league used to be much worse with injuries - I think it's improved significantly.

nash would be nice for the sharks, and complement thornton well b/c hes a finisher, but ya, the price they are asking for is way to high.

Thornton already has production from pavs. You just need someone to take over for patty. I'd also suggest either some tougher guys, but I think clowe and winchester got that. It seems more we need to replace patty alone and probably nemo with greiss and stalock.nash just seems more wasteful then an improvement.
