All-round I assume meaning that putting up 78 points from the blue line comes into consideration. I guess what you want is a new trophy for the best defensive defenseman. I hope they call it the Hal Gill award.

If it's anything like the Selke Trophy, it too would've gone to Erik Karlsson this year.

HFBoards would actually make a case for Karlsson rather than spout off a weak retort.

Chara was 3rd in the NHL for plus minus. Karlsson was 48th. Is plus/minus the end all for rating a players value? Of course not..just like points aren't for Karlsson. Unfortunately Karlsson excells in no other areas other than offense. He can't PK and he's an average defender.

he probably could PK, it just doesn't make sense from him to do so.

lmk when ottawa has two great goalies and an amazing defensive forward like patrice bergeron or brad marchand

chara had the better year, but karlsson is not horrible at defense, nor is he a bad defenseman.

I don't hate Karlsson at all. I view him as a great player. I just think that both Chara and Weber were more deserving. I'd even say a guy like Pietrangelo deserved it more.

Plus/Minus? Seriously? Karlsson had a great season, and him winning the Norris isn't bad. Whatever, I've had this discussion before with people like you. Citing +/- is a huge red flag that it's not worth wasting my time.

Chara? Fine. Weber? No way. He wasn't close in bulk stats, GVT, or possession numbers.

Where did I say he didn't have a great season? Whether or not you agree with me and my points is one thing, but you've done nothing to prove why you believe Karlsson is deserving.

"He had a great year"
pointzzzzzz!!!!!!

Plus/minus is far perfect which is I said it wasn't the end all, but to act like it isn't an indicator of a player's overall ability is just stupid.
