Bernie Parent was a great goalie. Even if he did play for the the Flyers.

Ya, lockout def won't end tonight. But I also feel safe saying the season def won't be lost. This thing will track pretty predictably over the next 2 weeks imo.

I felt pretty confident saying that at any point during the negotiation.

This is the point where things get unpredictable - when will the standoff end? I wrote on DP about why I think a really short season is rotten for some owners - 42 games might be about their limit, IMO.

Bettman's already said 48 games will be the stone minimum, right? I guess he could be bluffing, but I dunno, if they can't get it done by mid January, what's another week or two of negotiating gonna do?

bettman didn't really say that. at most, he implied it, but a lot of dumbass journalists are reporting it as if he said it was a solid deadline.

This is fair. IMO Hasek is clear #1, Roy clear #2 and Belfour #3 is less clear. The only reason I said I would snap take Belfour at #3 was that I researched this a few years ago and that was what I found. Belfour is clearly #3 in my book but you have to do some work to come to this conclusion as he doesn't have the reputation that Roy, Hasek and Brodeur have.

I also agree that longetivity (and consistency) is a skill which is a big reason why Brodeur is probably #4.

Anonymous leaks have come out saying that January 11th is the last day - after that, the NHL will cancel the season. I don't believe them, but there we are.

Ketter - check my edit to the post you quoted on the last page if you missed it. I have no idea what the disparity of save percentages would have been in the 70s and how it would affect a stat like SV%+, but relative to the rest of the league it doesn't make Brodeur stand out. The thing about Brodeur is he played at an above-average level consistently year-in and year-out which you don't see much.

of course it will never happen, but i sincerely wish that when the puck finally DOES drop that fans would have a 1 night boycott of all NHL arenas so every opening night game is played in an empty arena

29 game round robin. No more cherry picking for the Detroit, Chicago, Washington, Vancouvers of the world.

I'd tune in.

Meanwhile aislephive GOATing it up. Don't be that guy Geddy. My site which got fans to boycott neutral products had a 1% chance of working. Trying to get fans to boycott the product they're fans of has a 0% chance.

Wow, hockey on TV, amazing.

GOQB Louis Leblanc just about destroyed Carl Klingberg with a big hit.

Re: Bettman Lockout III Thread (aka NHL Offseason: Now & Forever)

Canadian arenas are going to be empty when this lockout is over. EMPTY!

Quote:
There are more than 100,000 Canadians who hold season tickets for their local NHL team, but fewer than 200 are believed to have cancelled during the lockout so far.
Quote:
Three of the teams contacted this week were willing to put an exact figure on the number of cancellations they have had over the past 3 1/2 months: The Winnipeg Jets reported no cancellations; the Toronto Maple Leafs indicated they had had just one; and the Montreal Canadiens noted only eight people had given up their tickets.
Quote:
The Vancouver Canucks, meanwhile, said they have “averaged a couple of cancellations per week,” while the Ottawa Senators have had less than 1 per cent of their 11,300 season-ticket base walk away.
Mirtle on season tickets
