As a Welsh person who has lived in Wales all his life and has only seen 1 nhl game live (1 of the ones played in London) im embarrassed for the residents of hockey countries itt

The NHL has cancelled an impressive 17.7% of their regular season games since Oct 2004 (1 in every 5.6) and 10.6% since Oct 1994 (1 in 9.4).
Just the cost of doing business boys.

Games cancelled through January 14th

There is no way we're still 95% to have a season.

I seriously expect the NHL will fold within the next 2-3 years.

I'm considering drafting a letter to Prime Minister Stephen Harper to request that the Government of Canada reclaim Lord Stanley's Cup from the control of the National Hockey League so that Canadian teams can begin challenging for it as intended.

Quote:
On February 7, 2006, a settlement was reached in which the trophy could be awarded to non-NHL teams should the league not operate for a season. The dispute lasted so long that, by the time it was settled, the NHL had resumed operating for the 2005–06 season, and the Stanley Cup went unclaimed for the 2004–05 season.[41] Furthermore, when another NHL lockout commenced in 2012 the Trustees stated that the 2006 agreement did not oblige them to award the Cup in the event of a lost season, and that they were likely to reject any non-NHL challenges for the Cup in the event the 2012-13 season were cancelled.[4]
That needs to change. A movement needs to be started to bring the cup back to Canada where it belongs since the NHL isn't going to last much longer.

"And somehow, even in an all Canadian team league, America still managed to hold onto the cup."

Seriously, though, fire bettman. 600+ games of lost profit shows incompetence.
And don't give me this **** about "well he generated profit in the years that he did." He probably would've generated more if he wasn't incompetent and was able to actually make a deal.

I still think the chances of a season are pretty good (~80-85%) due to just the sheer dollars and cents of it. The PA is throwing away far too much money if they don't sign something. The players could live with the last owners proposal if push came to shove, Fehr is just hoping to get a few more concessions from the owners before they finally ink a new CBA. They've come this far, might as well hold out til the 11th hour.

But ya, the next round of cancelled games would probably be the whole enchilada.
