No matter how much the PA would like to relate to the average Canadian worker, they simply can't. It's insulting to even suggest they have common ground.
Best quote from the article: "Remember, hockey players may earn high incomes for the few years they are playing. But for most, their earnings capacity after retirement from the league is limited." Well hold the ****ing phone, let's make sure these kids are gonna be able to make ends meet after they hang 'em up. A savings account at a major retail bank might be a good start.
I'm getting really sick of the overt pandering for public support from the PA. We don't give a **** up here anymore.
All I know is that I pay $600 a ticket to see a Leafs game and I'd much rather the money went to the plugs on the ice than the *******s who make ****ty trades upstairs wearing suits. They can get paid by corporate sponsors CENOVUS, BRUCE POWER and PENGROWTH.
HELL YES CANADIAN CORPORATISM.
I will never understand why energy companies feel the need to advertise; let alone be major corporate sponsors at sporting events. Surely it's entirely a ploy by their executives so they can get into boxes for free and stuff.
These companies are entirely the reason for the lockout.
Just bring it back to a 6 team not for profit organization and everything will work out. Just ****ing do it NHL. Come on. Coca-Cola went back to the Coca-Cola Classic and everyone loved it again. Just go back to original six and it will be fine.

And, best of all, Geddy would have a chance of seeing the post season!
I don't know the labor situation in Canada but it's certainly not tripe when it comes to the NHL - everything said was accurate.
It's obviously factually accurate in Canada as well. There's a little bit of tripe in the play for sympathy parts but on the whole it comes across to me as way better than Bettman and the owners' crocodile tears last week.
The more I read about the business of sports, the stadium rip-offs, the accounting shenanigans, the more depressed I get.
The nba and nhl are non-profit organizations.
Owners amortize and deduct the team purchase and the players themselves.
yada yada yada

It really is sickening.
I agree on stadia etc. (although the rip-offs tend not to be hockey venues, which usually come close to breaking even for a city) but I'm not sure what your point is in saying that the NBA and NHL are non-profit organizations. The teams themselves are regular companies paying normal taxes on profits. It's not uncommon in big industries for several companies to form a non-profit group that sets standards and so forth. That's what the NHL is.
