Seems more like Burkle, who actually has experience with this stuff, is the driving force. My opinion is that on this issue, it really doesnt matter what individual players do or say, because they're hockey players not labor negotiators, or owners, or whatever. So acting like a player's going to this meeting and "saving hockey" by saying "we shouldnt cancel the season because it will hurt the NHL longterm" is rampant fanboyism. Crosby doesnt really matter in this process any more than Toews, Adams, or Kevin Westgarth. Of course all that gets thrown out of the window if a deal gets struck, and the story becomes "The Kid Saves Hockey!" from ball washers like Rossi and Burnside. At least until the next lockout in 5 years. But here's to hoping something happens soon.

that's ridiculous. fehr and bettman each have an impossible task, they're charged with not only reaching an agreement but 'winning' the negotiation. and now that the NHL has lost two negotiations that they thought they won (because the league has moronic GMs and a handful of bottomless-pocketed owners), they have to be even more on guard for the possibility of losing when they think they are winning.

This IMO is the biggest danger. The owners figure they are holding the big stick, and the players just have to bend over and take what they are being offered. However, in the end, the players just might have too much pride to bend over, and this just might result in the entire season being lost.
