Re: Bettman Lockout III Thread (aka NHL Offseason: Now & Forever)

#1 WJC Storyline is gonna be Nuge vs Yakupov (like Crosby vs Ovechkin in 2004). Thanks Bettman!! Drive a wedge between our stars before they ever play a game together...

Re: Bettman Lockout III Thread (aka NHL Offseason: Now & Forever)

I went to school with Mark Mcneil's older sister. So I've always kind of followed his career closely. (also i own his rights in a fantasy keeper league lol). He was snubbed from camp last year, but I could see him being a surprise addition to this team. His last couple years have not been the best, but he's been playing on mediocre to crappy WHL/AHL teams, and battled injuries. Bob Mckenzie was really high on him his draft year.

Re: Bettman Lockout III Thread (aka NHL Offseason: Now & Forever)

and for those who forgot or don't know what i mean about the WJ team the last time there was a lockout (almost impossible if you live in Canada), it was truly ridiculous. i forget how they lined up exactly, even though i saw part of the final that they replayed not too long ago, but it was something like:

Crosby - P.Bergeron - C.Perry
Ladd - Getzlaf - J.Carter
MacArthur - M.Richards - A.Stewart
C.Fraser / Dawes / Colliton / Dixon

Phaneuf - Weber
Coburn - Seabrook
Barker / Belle / Syvret

and meh goalies as usual (Glass & Beauchemin), but it obv didn't matter

went 4-0 in the group stage scoring 32 goals while allowing just 5. "struggled" to a 3-1 win over the Czechs in the semis, before hammering a Russian team lead by Ovechkin, Malkin, & Radulov 6-1 in the final.

so yeah, prettay, prettay, prettay good. and this team doesn't look nearly as good, but who knows right?

No one, and I mean no one, will ever touch that '05 WJC roster or even come close.

I mean, Jesus Christ, for a U-20 tournament, that's just not fair.

Muresan - Many outsiders regard Crosby as a leader in all this....not just one member of the media of the city you are so wildly biased against.

Crosby has been way more involved in this than most/all players (obviously many are playing in Europe so it's tougher for them). Even national media and media of other teams recognize Crosby's leadership, influence and participation. And there was a fair amount of optimism when it was announced that Burkle was going to be a part of this too because of his reputation.

Fehr and Bettman were in there for how many sessions together? And they were not exactly making a lot of headway. One day of Crosby and Burkle and the rest of that contingent and there's suddenly optimism everywhere. I do think they deserve some credit for helping this process.

I think "drafting players in a fantasy league that aren't even in the NHL yet" is pretty high up on the list of "really GOCB ****"

The IIHF World Under 20 Championships are as overrated as the Victoria Secret Fashion show.

I really hope the 2012-13 "season" is literally just all 30 teams make an 8 round playoffs. LA and NJ can have first round byes. Playoff hockey all season. Now THAT *WOULDN'T* be underrated I tell ya.

My favorite part of the World Juniors is Finland winning the bronze every year against a team who had a gold or bust attitude. ****ing vultures.

One of the many reasons I can't abide by those ****ers.

Yeah, the 2005 juniors were sick. Watching that game is incredible. It's like, iaintevenmad.gif. That team would have medaled in the IIHF WC too, if they just sent it to represent Canada.

Seems more like Burkle, who actually has experience with this stuff, is the driving force. My opinion is that on this issue, it really doesnt matter what individual players do or say, because they're hockey players not labor negotiators, or owners, or whatever. So acting like a player's going to this meeting and "saving hockey" by saying "we shouldnt cancel the season because it will hurt the NHL longterm" is rampant fanboyism. Crosby doesnt really matter in this process any more than Toews, Adams, or Kevin Westgarth. Of course all that gets thrown out of the window if a deal gets struck, and the story becomes "The Kid Saves Hockey!" from ball washers like Rossi and Burnside. At least until the next lockout in 5 years. But here's to hoping something happens soon.
