They also met for 8 hours on Tuesday with plans to meet again today, so that's really good news it would seem. I think Triumph is right here, the season will be started within a month or two. Both sides lose way too much if another season goes down the drain.

More free money bets:

Will the whole season be canceled? No -110 gogogogo I maxed it. Was capped at like $55 or something (made 3 different bets over 15 minutes to see if the line was moving at all in my favour first)

Yeah, I agree.

Not entirely free money on this one. But certainly looks promising the way talks have been going. I would say closer to 30% chance they lose the whole season so definitely some value there.

30% chance they lose the season? No way. 5%. Pound that bet all day.

Re: Bettman Lockout III Thread (aka NHL Offseason: Now & Forever)

Triumph - Was being a bit generous on the 30%. I think 5% is going too low though.

We may see if the latest talks have real legs by end of today (or perhaps tomorrow if they continue). It would not surprise me if I were in the 5% (or less) camp by Friday. But at this moment it's a little too early to say for sure.

Right now, people are getting super-excited just about the fact that they are actually talking. I'm really optimistic too. But you have to remember that we have some pretty stubborn dudes in there. And "they're actually talking again!!" does not = "game on.

Anyway, -110 is not "free" money. But it definitely is really good value whether we are talking 30% chance of cancellation or 5%. I maxed out the bet for my "almost-free" $50 and am hoping that dough gets shipped to me by Dec 1...meaning "Opening Night" for our 64-game conference schedule is played by that time

Bodog is setting some of these prop lines pretty darn badly....which anyone who specializes in props already knows. If the line were set at -200 on No I would very strongly consider taking it.

Instead, I got it No at -110. And the Yes side is -130? What? Well, if people are actually taking that bet then I guess Bodog is doing okay on these props and not getting crushed. Good for them. And LOL at the idiots betting the wrong side of these props.

I've already gone 2-0 on the previous lockout props that I bet....that ANY games would be cancelled...and that lockout would last past Nov 2 which was offered on Oct 23 or something when they were finger-pointing and weren't even talking anymore....

So if there can't be NHL games yet...at least I can thank them for the almost-free money on Bodog!!

(I also went 4-0 in political props yesterday...Woot!!)

Well I hope you're right. You might be overstating things a bit though. Don't forget that these are the same idiots who lost a whole season just recently. Not sure that things are that much different this time around.

even 5% is high. there is no set of 10 owners (1/3 needed to block a cba) who will forego getting a piece of a pie worth 3.3B dollars. these are powerful men who are driven by money.

Re: Bettman Lockout III Thread (aka NHL Offseason: Now & Forever)

I'm sure there were many saying the exact same thing last time.

I don't think we will lose a season, but 5% sounds low. How many here would be willing to bet on a season being played and lay 19-1 odds?

I think MicroBob is right. 5% too low, 30% too high. If I had to set the line I think I'd put it somewhere around 10-15%.

Re: Bettman Lockout III Thread (aka NHL Offseason: Now & Forever)

sylar - Yeah, I would agree with you...except for the incredibly obvious part that they have already pretty much done exactly what you described in a previous dispute.

And I don't really know about the 1/3 part needed to block a CBA stuff. Just that the unbelievable "no way they cancel a whole season" became way more believable once they actually did it.

there are significant differences between last time and today. for example, there's an additional $1.5B in revenue. basically, compared to last time, losing a season is almost as bad as losing 2 six years ago, not to mention this time the brand will be hurt a lot more.

Re: Bettman Lockout III Thread (aka NHL Offseason: Now & Forever)

5% seems about right

i'd be REALLY surprised if they managed to donk off an entire season, AGAIN

it's just so stupid that it probably shouldn't be possible for them to do, and the fact that it seems like they're having real discussions again is a pretty good sign i think

Re: Bettman Lockout III Thread (aka NHL Offseason: Now & Forever)

sylar: btw they need 22 owners to ratify a new CBA.

ketter: they lost a season last time because the differences were quite stark. the players ended up losing a season and 24% of their current contracts. here they will lose at most 10% of their current contracts and half a season. even so, i think 5% is still a good number, but your posts have not been made in vain.
