I would like to think that at 9pm on a random Tuesday night there's at least one arena worker trained in AED at the arenas that have them. Although I walked by my local one and it has pretty clear layman instructions for public use.

Can't find any news about it; my brother's playing the 2nd game right now, hoping he had some good news to pass along.

There is a bill making its way through Ontario legislature that would make AEDs mandatory in all public places. Might be on hold while we don't really have a provincial government at the moment.

/politarding

I know in Ottawa all arenas have them. I think all high schools have them too.

I was googling for that. All I saw was a bill from 2010 that seemed to just drop off the radar.

I remember a celebrity of some sort campaigning for defibrillators shortly after that incident in the KHL [Alexei Cherepanov].

They passed a law here in August 2011.

"Manitoba is the first Canadian jurisdiction to require public access to automated external defibrillators..."

Nothing itt about a 10+ hour meeting and both sides not releasing details to media?

Seems like the biggest ray so far, no?

"But we went much further afield; we looked at the analytics of hockey. We sat in on a meeting of the analytics group of the Edmonton Oilers. They were trying to figure out if a guy who scored a goal in a game should be one of the guys shooting if there’s a shootout."

NHL asking for blood. Literally.

@NHL: Because of #Sandy, there is a shortfall of nearly 11,000 units of blood so far. Make an
appointment to give blood: http://t.co/lhpXUcZN

Honestly, jazz club is like my ideal date - if I find a woman who's down with that idea, we're probably getting married.

They have a website and google also exists as well.

It's a super-low level of minor league hockey. Mostly a bunch of guys who aren't good enough to play in the ECHL or even the CHL (which is lower than the ECHL).

Danbury, CT is probably the best run organization in that league (I'm friends with their owner/GM). They lead the league with about 1400 fans per game...which is a sellout in their little building. Although Williamsport might pass them with this outdoor thing they are doing. And the new team in Dayton, Ohio would have a chance too.

But mostly their teams in New Jersey and Brooklyn and Thousand Island and Rome have tended to average well below 1,000 fans per game. Players are getting paid extremely little to play. 700 fans at $5 ticket or something isn't exactly bringing in the revenue. It's considered to be glorified rec-league in a way.

Most would view the FHL as slightly lower than the other single-A league, the SPHL (Southern Pro Hockey League), which is a bit less rec-beer-league'y it seems. SPHL team in Huntsville, Ala averages almost 4,000 fans a game which is pretty darned good considering the level of play.

not a single player from the FHL nor SPHL has ever made it to the NHL (I'm pretty sure)...although neither have been around for very long. For both leagues, it's something to brag about when one of their players gets to be an emergency fill-in in the ECHL or something.

someone said former NHLer pierre dagenais played for the NJ based FHL team last year (and dominated). but if you're talking went FROM the FHL to the NHL, yeah, i doubt that ever happens.

The caliber of play is actually probably improving in what is now the league's third year. Fewer college-club hockey guys and a few more older players with actual ECHL experience (as scrubs mostly) under their belt.

And yes, the occasional veteran can use the league as well if he just has an appeal to stay in that area and isn't trying to grind his way back. Dagenais played 2 years in the KHL and that's sometimes very difficult culturally and homesick-wise for many of the Canadians and Americans who give that a try. He made his money. Now he's able to just enjoy playing hockey. 81 goals and 143 points last year in 43 games. LOL.

Similar in that respect to the LNAH in Quebec...which used to be called the Quebec Semi-Pro League or something. A super-goon league with over 3 fights per game ON AVERAGE. Quite a few NHL'ers hang out in that league when their careers are mostly over. Denis Hamel recently signed with a team there. He played there a few games in 2010-11 while waiting for an AHL team to express an interest. And I'm going to assume he hasn't garnered AHL interest again partly due to all the NHL players sent down.
