Good news rat/kirby. Markov is going to be out of vityaz lineup for only 3 games, and then he is fully committed to playing 100% and be ready to hit the IR by the time he needs to report back to the Habs.

Re: Bettman Lockout III Thread (aka NHL Offseason: Now & Forever)

Due to the lockout i went to see British hockey today and saw a first. 2 players fighting after the handshake line after the game, then the away player taunting the fans, causing a brawl between all players and ending with said away player fighting a fan while the mascot tried to break them up. Don't get that action in the NHL

ECHL watch, since we now have the SF Bulls in town:

- 11/10, the Ontario (CA) Reign featuring PAUL MARA come to town
- 12/5, the Bakersfield Condors featuring DAVID TOEWS brother of NHL superstar JONATHAN TOEWS arrive
- if we go all the way till March 2013, we'll get the Alaska Aces featuring JOEY CRABB and the most excited man in Columbus Ohio, BRANDON DUBINSKY

Sylar, your response to me seems like you think I was advocating some strong position for the players or owners or something or that I said something worth getting upset about. I didn't call anyone out or anything. I'm explaining how it works and giving what little knowledge I have on the matter. You mentioning that I called someone out is dumb.

Stop being so touchy. Not everyone is against you.

Regardless, barclays just recently signed as an nhl arena. They haven't officially started yet, but the NHL game was cancelled shortly after that. Very possible there was relation and it isn't up to your own personal definition of what should technically be okay. It could be kind of about the league and one of their new partners at barclays ....albeit technically a future partner although it is possible that by signing to commit to an nhl team they are already a partner NOW ....and how they are going about things. Maybe not. No biggie.

It is entirely possible that the lease for nhl arenas includes language about not allowing alternative leagues in their buildings without league approval. And signing a lease for 2015 and then allowing a bunch of locked out stars to jump in there and make you a profit thus usurping the league in its own way certainly could be viewed as running quite contrary to that.

While Nash, Thornton, Seguin, Spezza etc are just more or less doing the job for their lockout club, Couture is really giving 100%. The reason our coach wanted him in the first place and not an even bigger name was exactly because he thought Couture would give everything and not just stay in shape waiting for NHL to resume.

AORN we're trying to find a way, legal or not, to prevent him to leave Geneva.

Schultz has Nuge type buzz around him right now. I don't even live in Edmonton anymore (moved to Calgary), and everyone here is talking about Schultz not Baertschi.

Every fifth post on Facebook is about the kid.

The Coffey comparisons are everywhere.

Kind of missed Hockey Night In Canada on Saturday and watching the Leafs lose.

Still on the owners side but a guy like Katz makes you sway.

Players that are not overseas are gonna feel the sting soon

Re: Bettman Lockout III Thread (aka NHL Offseason: Now & Forever)

Went to see Abby play Hamilton yesterday. Baertschi was good but not outstanding, but everyone looked tired as hell - it was Abby's 3rd game in under 48 hours. lol AHL.

But the one guy who was outstanding was Roman Horak, who scored again and now has a goal in each of Abby's first 7 games. He was the best player on the ice by a country mile; creating chances all game, could've had another 1 or 2 goals, tenacious and intelligent forechecker, responsible in all three zones, fantastic skater, etc. I'm really starting to like this kid, and I think he could turn into a David Krejci-type pivot for Calgary.

you work in minor league hockey. you opinion on hosting AHL games at NHL rinks is positive, even though i think you are disappointed that Buffalo didn't sell out. but this is positive that (for the lack of a better work) benevolent nhl team lets ahl team into its rink [ETA: didn't mean to make it a quote]. i have no problem with it.

there are other labor issues here, but whatever.

but as soon as it's a ZOMG foreign league, with locked out players who are actively speaking out against a league, the tone shifts to "of course they shouldn't be allowed to do this. the delusion!".

it does appear that you have little knowledge of why the khl cancelled the barclays games. once again, you are ignoring the backlash back home against the games. by far a greater force on khl's decisions than the rhetorical legal ability to have those games at a future nhl-arena, according to a prior agreement between the khl and prokhorov. that's why i called your point, which you are pulling out of thin air, tin-foily.

it's possible, but i seriously doubt that the khl and barclays didn't have a contract or a verbal agreement to play, before the nhl jumped in with this islanders lease.

You don't find it strange at all that the Islanders were announced moving to Brooklyn only a few days after the game was canceled? I'm pretty sure the NHL knew about this and then told the KHL they couldn't play the game there, so bull**** reasons could be cited rather than the NHL looking like the bad guy.

I don't find it any more strange than i find this a bull**** reason. dynamo/ska players/fans don't want to fly to north america. period.

We're approaching a 1:1 ratio of discussion regarding 1230 NHL games being canceled and 2 KHL games being moved.

Doesn't stop the NFL from holding a ******ed London game every year. Although, to be fair, that's the highest quality of football available, whereas you couldn't charge top dollar for KHL hockey.

The only thing to discuss is that the Winter Classic might be getting canceled.

http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/85...ed-source-says

Kind of hope it does. I hate that ****ing game, and it would hurt the NHL for dragging their feet in the mud on this lockout.

Re: Bettman Lockout III Thread (aka NHL Offseason: Now & Forever)

no, the reason why the NFL can hold a ******ed game in London every year is because the NFL craps on the players, and they've been trying to

and gtfo, both 24/7 and the WC are awesome. it's a shame if that's cancelled.

also, if it's cancelled, the NHL may never get it back. NBC will fill that slot with a bowl game starting next year and probably come out ahead.

the event can't exist unless it's on the main NBC network, wat?

if you don't put that on network television, you are not really attracting many new viewers to the game and hurting the tv ratings for the rest of the nbc games. this is important as eventually the league will need a new and bigger tv contract. the game may exist, but it will have a fraction of the needed impact.

meh, i don't think the game really attracts many news fans, and i'm pretty sure they'd still run it if it aired on NBC Sports or whatever, and a lot of ppl would still find it if they care

(assuming the channel is available where they live, no clue on NBCS's coverage, ldo)

and what new TV contract? they just signed a 10-year deal with NBCS...

they would do no such thing. the reason why they came up with the winter classic and put it on january 1 is because the day is such a bowl desert - few of the top bowl games are held that day. the winter classic is much better than one of those.
