"We are used to dealing with young professionals."

This is Toronto speak for "we only serve pretentious ****s who got daddy to pay for their degree at Western or Queens and are now 25 years old making $50k and think they're the best **** the world has to offer."

Oh wait, that's every bar in Toronto.

2 years ago I was in the hotel at a poker tournament in the perfect state of mind for something like this, and I remember seeing this live on tv. I was sooooo confused. Hilarious.

Literally the only 15 minutes of sportsnet I watched all trip, and it was perfect timing. I've never laughed so hard.

Midway through the second period, Riku Helenius and Robin Lehner got into it last night.

Binghamton was winning 5-0 when this happened. Lehner ended up with two fighting majors somehow(Helenius got the only major in that time of the game), plus a misconduct for being the "aggressor." 22 penalty minutes.

That wasn't the most though. Mark Borowiecki had two fighting majors and a boarding major, got tossed for three majors in one game, good for 27 minutes.

Syracuse scored two goals in the second, three more in the third and another in overtime for the 6-5 OT win.

Yesterday my twin brother told me a crazy bar fight related story, which I am too lazy to completely summarize, but cliffnotes are it ends up being a three on three brawl. With three bouncers vs. three drunk idiots, the highlight of the fight is a chair getting broken over someone's back. Eventually off-duty cops at the bar across the street see the shenigans going on, come over and subdue the drunk idiots. Today I saw a story about this fight posted on citytv, who was one of the drunk idiots. You guessed it

Q: If the talks between the league and you [the players?] don't reach a compromise, is it possible in your mind to continue your career in Russia? Is that legally possible?

A: I think so. If my contract is severely cut, it could be annulled through court.

How severely cut does dude think he's contract is getting cut?

How many player contracts have been cancelled by a judge?

The dude has 9 years left on his contract. If the league rolls it back to 5 year max deals, he's losing 44+%. If the league just rolls back salaries instead of terms, then it's between 12 and 24%, depending on league revenues, escrow, etc. So yeah, his contract could be cut significantly.

I can't read his mind as to what he thinks though.

the league cannot annul years of the contract unless that is collectively bargained, which it wouldn't be. ovechkin's not getting out of his deal, and he's not going to play in russia.

Ovechkin is 100% going to play in Russia because the NHL is going to annul his contract.

Junior hockey is the best.

Also my mitey mites had their first game today. 2:30 buzzer shifts, no score kept of course, and its back-and-forth, fire-wagon 16-15 type of action. I can honestly say I haven't seen joy from scoring a goal like that since ovechkin's 2009 season.

I like how he's first speaking in terms of what the "players" want, like it's a solidarity issue or something, and then in the next quote, he just succumbs to the selfishness.

NHL still not cancelling beyond Nov 1st despite the fact that no meetings are on the books. Can we read anything into this? What are the chances they could roll up their sleeves and get this done in like a 48 hr period at some point this week?

1%. Still more posturing left to be done, the NHL has to pretend like it doesn't want a deal when it clearly does.

What kind of chunk do you think the next batch of cancellations would be? Through like Nov 15th or just the entire month? I keep reading a bunch of diff stuff that says how the Winter Classic could be next on the chopping block somehow. Shouldn't that be like 6-7 weeks away from being cancelled and basically the point of no return? I can't imagine them cancelling games through Jan 2nd and still salvaging any kind of season.

The reason why the Winter Classic is in jeopardy is because it takes a long time to set up. I think they will 'cancel' up until November 15th, but as journalists are noting, the canceled games can be made up. During the 1995 lockout, if you remember, Game 7 of the Stanley Cup would've been June 30. The season started in late January but it was 48 games long. That's what will happen here - I think they start December 1ish with a 65-ish game season.

The November 1 date was done by the NHL to not seem punitive and to keep the door symbolically open to the NHL rank-and-file.

If you boys all haven't checked out my girl T-Swift's new album released today, you better get on it. It is DA **** and has made me forget about the lockout since it was released. I actually don't think I'll think or care about the lockout once more until this new album wears off. It's lockout cure.

The "cancelled games" announcements, etc are pretty much all-nonsense anyway. When they cancel "through November 1" that means they have already pretty much cancelled through to two weeks later than that...just not officially.

Winter Classic is allowed to be moved. I read an article somewhere that stated there actually is flexibility on the dates of all the events.

If they solve all the issues and sign a deal on XMas or something and start season Jan 15 then they would probably play Winter Classic on Feb 1 I bet. Contrary to popular opinion, I don't see it quite as likely that they would BEGIN the season with the Winter Classic...because, as noted, it just takes way too freaking long to set up.

Sign a deal, slap together a schedule (will be really tough working around NBA and other stuff since it needs to change so much) and start two weeks later at whatever point is best-case scenario I think. And just too tough to cram together the Winter Classic in that time-frame (if deal comes after Dec 15) no matter how cute or ideal it might be to "welcome back the NHL" with the big feel-good event. Just let them get their 2+ weeks of regular season games out of the way at the various arenas.

re ovechkin

he can easily get at least 7-8m per after taxes in russia, same with kovalchuk and other stars (36-38year old jagr had ~10m per year untaxed)
