cliffs: went over to play in the KHL during the lockout, already played 2 games before it was realized that the official paperwork wasn't filed (he had to be officially transferred from Edmonton to the KHL team, but wasn't), the IIHF ruled bc of that the only place he could play during the lockout is Sarnia (in which case he might just have not bothered playing anywhere). what a beat. sounds like it might all get worked out tho.

idk why really, but it's kind of bemusing to see all the sports stations up here with the extended coverage of the CHL on the highlight shows. kind of expected to see the KHL/Euro stuff, but not pack after pack of CHL clips. how long before TSN tries to pick up the rights to a lot of KHL/CHL games? i mean it's a long time until the World Juniors.
Hopefully soon. I know Sportsnet picked up a lot of Euro league games during the last lockout.

Yakupov's dad says Nail will not go to Sarnia under any circumstances & if can't play in the KHL will just stay in Russia to train. #Oilers

Right move.

yeah i saw that, but didn't know what to make of it really, still don't.

at first i was tinfoiling that maybe it had something to do with the lockout, given that he might be one of the few ex-players (or maybe not, idk) in these meetings in his role as President of the team, but i guess that's not it. still pretty strange that it's about this new owner not wanting him around, and paying him to go away. he's always seemed like a pretty respected guy in every role he's taken, so...weird?

but yeah, he'd probably be a good hire for other teams out there afaik. but that's the other thing, who knows what this is all about, or what team Presidents really do anyway, or how we can possibly try to evaluate any of that. more than anything that might be why nobody commented. also the whole lockout killing interest in the game thing...

Re: NHL Offseason 2012 Thread

- John Tavares signs with Swiss club Bern
- Evander Kane signs with Dinamo Misnk of the KHL
- Jeff Skinner given permission not to report to AHL, Gabriel Landeskog also not assigned anywhere yet
- Nugent-Hopkins, Eberle, & Hall all headed to OKC for AHL action?
- Scott Gomez, Joey Crabb, & Nate Thompson sign with the Alaska Aces of the ECHL (lol Gomez!)
- Nazim Kadri apparently trained with Gary Roberts this summer, but obviously he's not a cure-all as Kadri reported to AHL camp in very poor condition:

"I'm still a young guy," he concluded. "I'm slowly learning how to be a pro and what types of food to put into my body, but it's not like you're all going to get it in a couple months, you're going to start to figure it out, you'll gradually get the hang of it as you go."

lol what a goof!

So Ehrhoff was in town today and man did he look bad. I don't mean "bad for being an NHL player" bad but "one of the worst players in an awful german league game" bad.

good maybe that 'gary roberts turns players into greek gods' myth will go away. roberts is obviously a fitness and nutrition fanatic, but that doesn't mean it revolutionizes everyone's life who comes into contact with him

Man, willpower is a *****. Training for a contract that will guaranteed set you up for life if leveraged correctly and you still slip.

I've got a feeling he didn't completely follow the gameplan.

Thanks Jared, was a long week.

Also second the hope that ANY OTHER TEAM IN THE NHL affiliates in Abby. It's like 20 mins from me and I would likely be a season ticket holder, but I won't even go to one game and cheer for a Flame prospect/old guy (with the obvious exception of Jerome).

The decision to partner with Calgary has to go down as one of the stupidest calls in history. Might as well have the Celtic youth club play at Ibrox.

Man it hit me tonight.

I just got home from a poker tourny. 8 years ago we started this end of summer tourny, and it's become an annual thing. Bracelet for the winner. Somewhere between 20 and 30 people each year. 8 years of this. We all want this bracelet second to only the ME bracelet. It's become prestigious.

It hit me though. The irony of how this tournament, and the last 8 years of my life, have been a direct byproduct of the last lockout. 9 years ago this group started with a bunch of restaurant employees who became aware/interested in poker due to the NHL lockout. Poker exploded in Canada, and we had a group that began playing poker 3-4 times per week. After a year of small games, we decided to have one big tourny with a bracelet for the Champ. 8 years later it's still going.

8 year later the NHL is not going.

There's also the fact that every year during the tourny, all anyone has talked about is the upcoming hockey season. There are people there that I only see once a year nowadays, and the idea that hockey was the communal topic didn't hit me until halfway through the tourny tonight, when I realized we hadn't even talked about hockey once.

So many corollaries.

cliffs:

**** Gary Bettamn, **** Donald Fehr, **** the NHL as a staff, as a hockey league, and the mother ****ing NHLPA too, and if you wanna be down with the NHL then **** you too. Bill Daly **** you too. All you mother ****ers. **** you too.

/2pac

Sitting in a 90% empty Scotiabank Place waiting for 67's game to start.

Hey, it's hockey! Even if it is two mostly awful teams playing in front of 1,000 people in a 20k seat arena.
