30 owners all just gave their overwhelming and unanimous approval to his approach and strategy on this whole thing....and, essentially, to him as well.

He's locked out the league twice now and alienated the fans. The only thing I can actually agree with is trying Americanizing the game (different reasons, of course.)

I mean, I'd be pissed if I was the owners: two lockouts worth of lost revenue?

The league is more popular than ever, and the last lockout got them a salary cap that saved the owners a bunch of money.

Re: NHL Offseason 2012 Thread

Also, "lockouts worth of lost revenue" isn't really that big a deal to an owner of a team that doesn't make that much in the first place. They aren't paying the salaries of the players obviously. Lay off some other staff too, etc.

Locking out keeps some teams from losing money actually...according to them anyway. Hence the reason they say they need to do the lockout in the first place.

Sign so-and-so for $50M. Then complain that you can't afford to do that and the players are making too much.

How does a team like Nashville live with themselves after keeping Weber to that huge pricetag and then basically complaining they can't afford to do that?

It's common knowledge that Bettman is just a puppet for the owners. None of this is his own agenda. I suppose you could blame him for not reaching a deal with the players, but again, he's negotiating on behalf of the owners, and isn't going to take a deal they don't believe is fair.

Also, get over to the NHL Modern Era Draft thread you pidzas.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Jordan Eberle and Justin schultz all to Oklahoma City. It's official. The Nuge will get to light it up in the AHL. Eberle had freaking 34 goals in EDM last year. I didn't know he was eligible too. Sick. I like OKC's team a tad better than ABB lol.

They also return 16 players from last year's team that won the western conference.

Does a year played in the Ahl count against the NHL contracts?

yeah this

he's once again going to make the owners a bunch of money here, so they keep bringin him back and give him raises

they know the players have no other option really, and the fans will mostly come back, so who cares about anything else? he's prob doing a great job if you're an owner.

Is Redden still on the AHL team, or will/can the Rangers call him up so they don't have to pay him?

Re: NHL Offseason 2012 Thread

How to live without hockey. We're finally at a point where I'm the expert!

The last thing you want to do is fall prey to the media. Remember that hacks are the most wretched failures on Earth. They would like to feel important, connected or useful, failing that they want to see their words cause pain. A lockout is no desert for them, they will produce every sort of obscene conjecture. The pump that will suck you dry of emotion and energy is inflated with hope and contracted with postponement.

Those who can't do teach, those who can't teach clean, those who can't clean report. Dirty ****ing imbeciles, the lot of them, failures at even being drunken storytellers. How can you be so terrible at a job where so little is expected of anyone.

You must not let them. Put your head somewhere else. You will hear when the next season starts. There is nothing to be done until then so put your energy into positive endeavors.

Remember the last lockout sparked the poker boom in Canada. Let's hope PokerStars takes advantage if this goes long!

I wont be back in this thread very often until the lockout is over. I'm going to try to support TJay's boycott. That may be a symbolic gesture with little real consequence, but it will feel good.
