NHL getting together again to tell referees to call the rule book...

Quote:
TORONTO -- Away from the pressure of competition, Colin Campbell hopes the NHL can find some clarity on its standard for calling penalties.

The NHL's senior vice-president of hockey operations will oversee a rules summit with key stakeholders in the game Tuesday and Wednesday that is tasked with examining the way hooking, holding and interference calls were handed out last season.

"We've got lots of video clips to look at and we're trying to determine where our standard is and if we want to tighten it up at all," Campbell said Monday.

The meeting will be held in place of the research and development camp the NHL put on the last two years.

There should be a healthy exchange of ideas with five general managers (Darcy Regier, Lou Lamoriello, Ray Shero, Steve Yzerman, Mike Gillis) and four head coaches (Joel Quenneville, Barry Trotz, Dave Tippett, Adam Oates) in a room with players, referees and members of the league's hockey operations department.

i guess you can't imagine a league where power plays aren't at an all-time low?

i mean, we're not to where we were pre-2004, but there was a lot more interference in the playoffs this year than in years past imo.

If we have to lose another season are they going to do the stupid draft lottery like last time?

I hope they do something like randomize the 2012's 1-10, 11-20, 21-30 to make a new order. Toronto will probably be in the running for Nathan MacKinnon or at least another top 5 and the last thing we need is that stupid lottery and end up with the 25th pick in the best top 10 since 2003.

It wasn't a total lottery, though. If they did the same system again, Toronto would have three times as good of a chance to get 1st overall pick than Vancouver, for example.

Quote:
Teams were assigned 1 to 3 balls based on their playoff appearances and first overall draft picks from the past three years. According to the draft order, the selection worked its way up to 30 as usual; then instead of repeating the order as in past years, the draft "snaked" back down to the team with the first pick

And if we played the season we would have 1000000000000000000x better chance, any idiot can see that.

to me 3x better isn't enough considering what has happened the last 7 years. and ftr I am well aware it wasn't a equal odds lottery, but I didn't think there were enough odds given to the bad teams.

Hard to move when you're not on your feet most of the game.

Paul Ranger signs an AHL contract with the Marlies.

So that's interesting.

always +EV to sign a player after a carreer year. I guess its alright if he keeps scoring 37 g / season.
Spoiler:
As long as he keeps that hair cut we'll let it slide.

Yakupov's agent says his guy will play in KHL instead of OHL if the lockout extends into the season.
