I believe last time, it was players drafted before 1980 were ineligible. So Mario and Wayne would be ineligible.

Wayne would still be eligible in that one!

I think a players' performance before the cutoff shouldn't figure into their peak level, i.e. Gretzky isn't gonna score 92 in a '90s NHL.

If this is the case than 95 seems too late IMO

yeah but we could run it like the cutoff is players drafted in 199x (where x = 2-5) or later are eligible, older players are not. would help eliminate questions about how to evaluate older players who were past their prime by then.

yeah agreed i think 1992 draft picks would be a good cutoff. and it's not hard to evaluate gretzky from then on, he was a massively overrated player post 1994

yeah i know, but i can see into the future where someone would take guys like that who fall into the overrated past the cutoff category too high, and then we get into extended arguments about it, etc. would rather try to avoid all that.

also around Bettman Lockout I-today is a decent range, and we haven't used it before, so why not? and yeah '92 would give us 20 years... (1992-2011 would be 20 drafts, we could exclude 2012 bc none of those guys have played a game yet)

I agree with this

We're using current NHL rules, correct?

Ok, I get it and like this idea. I already know who I would take first overall

i'm starting to lean this way.

of course we eliminate those arguments, but create the "x wouldn't be as productive in the post 04-05 lockout NHL" arguments

Why not borrow from the essence of the movie studio draft and do city, logo/jerseys, arena, owner, gm, coach, a 1st PP unit, a 1st PK unit, 1G, etc.

Think of the onslaught of Geddy and Gamblor anecdotes/commentary.

If there is no season, can the Kangz just keep passing the Cup around?

They sounded much more promising today than they did a week ago.

Could a GM hypothetically/realistically avoid a tampering charge/conviction in the following scenario?

Quote:
Reporter: Your team has been mentioned in conversations as being interested in a top scoring forward who while currently under contract with another team, has publicly confirmed he is going to 'evaluate all of his options, including the FA market' when his contract expires. Can you confirm if you will be making an offer to this unnamed player?

GM: If I was the hypothetical GM of a hypothetical team evaluating hypothetically soon to be top FAs, it would be idiotic for me to not make an offer for the highest scoring FA in the hypothetical FA market.
(I played around a lot with the wording; please dismiss the lack of realism to such a scenario actually occurring and only evaluate the legality of such a comment based on the exact wording of the Q&A).

what did Burkie say now...?

edit: serious answer - kinda seems like tampering bc he's referring to the specific player in the question (who is under contract), but in a general way. so i could see a complaint being filed about it, but the league has rejected the last bunch of tampering charges that have come before them iirc. (and more serious violations than that)

So if I understand what little came out of the players "alternate view" of things...

- cap stays, but allow for higher revenue teams to spend more while paying luxury tax

- players portion stays at the current amount. ie.: whatever 57% is of revenues right now would be the share the players get for the next three years. Even if revenues go up, cap remains at (for example) $70 million.

That's about all I got from the players today. Not surprised if I'm way off, but that's what it sounded Fehr was talking about.

Not saying im in/out, but before I commit to anything i'd like to have a better idea of the format, whats up for stakes, drafting process, etc.

I really enjoy the format we use with friends at home. Salary cap, 1 pt for a goal/pass, 2 pt for goalie victory, 1 pt for a shout out, 1 pt for OT loss. Select 7 d, 13 f, 2 goalies.

Straight forward, no hassle, fair bit of strategy can be involved, not so much knowledge of the 90s required, and its easy to put 5-10-20$ ea to make the sweat fun and ensure proper amounts of seriousness are put into it. Straightforward metrics involved.

Perhaps we could do one like this as well as one dynasty draft. I'm sure some people prefer one, others the other. That way you dont get 20 people drafting in the dinasty draft and only 5-8 that are passionate/engaged about arguing for the merit of their team.

i think this draft here is basically gonna be for fun

a real $$$ hockey pool draft (if one happens) will prob be closer to the season / when the CBA is settled
