It's been too long since the last draft and things are slow on the NHL reg front so I'm down for anything. Another modern era draft sounds good. Looking back, I made some really terrible picks in the last one.

No you don't get their current contract forever, you get the contract(s) they'll be on for the time period of this hypothetical dynasty. Guys on long-term deals won't be affected, but you'd have to assign a salary to anybody who will become a free agency. The contracts you 'sign' your draft picks to will probably have to be specified when you make the pick. As long as people are reasonable this shouldn't be an issue (just compare it to the types of deals specific groups of players get in the real NHL). This worked fine in the NBA draft.
