slap shot gets a pat on the head for being the grandpa of the clan, but it's not that good of a movie on re-watch.

It's about sexuality and violence, it's deep.

Re: NHL Offseason 2012 Thread

slap shot is weird. it's like one half typical comedy of the 2000s, one half gritty character-driven 70s movie. if they remade it today they would cut all the female characters down into stereotypes.

Re: NHL Offseason 2012 Thread

okay reveal upcoming. due to my inability to figure out how to combine peehs reveals in this program, i will be posting in-round scores and then tallying the scores at the end. so, i apologize for that, but it does make a little more tense, no?

You must be a casual fan. I've seen slapshot maybe 30-40 times. At least once a season, usually several times a season, basically since I was 12. That's a lot of bus rides. I can probably do half the movie by myself.

Its still an absolute classic in every respect. The lines are great on their own, until you remember all the hockey characters you know that actually talk and think like that in earnest.

And then you enjoy it on a whole other level.

And then the bunnies. And the fans. And its all so just fantastic.

it's the rocky horror for hockey fans. people like it because of the social experience, not because of its quality as a movie.

There are references to masturbation, homosexuals, lesbians, bestiality, incest, gender roles, cross-dressing, adultery, cunnilingus, casual sex, the pinwheel girl.

I mean they even have Dickie Dunn's boy calling his sister a pussy [as he hits her]. Consider the purpose of that scene.

ok, i'll admit i was trolling with the rocky horror thing. it drags in part, but i still happily watch it whenever i come across it on tv. still liked goon better, though.
