I'm not upset because I'm forgetting he wasn't a Shark4lyfe. I'm upset because he was s key part of the only decent bottom six line we had last year. Plus, if our PK doesn't continue to systemically suck, he'll probably be good there too.

Re: NHL Offseason 2012 Thread

I love how Feaster was all "y'know, we've gotta add sandpaper to our bottom six, we've gotta add guys who are tough to play against" and Daniel ****ing Winnik stays on the open market for almost a month and they'd rather play Lee Stempniak in the bottom six instead.

That's why I was angry with that resigning. There was real sandpaper available and guys like Stempniak and Comeau aren't it. ****. And before I get the lecture again on how "where else were the Flames going to find 20+ goal wingers like that," neither of those guys are 20+ goal men in the roles they'll play for Calgary and now they get lost in the abyss of "Top 9" purgatory.

I still really believe in the value guys like Winnik bring to your hockey club. That is a fantastic signing by Anaheim, too bad he's gonna waste away on an average hockey club, especially after Ryan gets moved.

The impact of the front-loading is being overrated. If you owe someone $26 million next year and you don't want to pay it all at once, you borrow the amount and pay it back in installments. The impact isn't that they'll go bankrupt next year if they match the offer, the impact is that the actual cost exceeds the dollar amount because of interest.

Not if your intent is to keep him for one year and then trade. Then you end up paying $26mil for one year of Weber and whatever extra value you get in a trade. The contract was probably structured this way specifically to keep the Preds from matching the contract with the intent of trading him.

The Preds make money due to a sweetheart stadium deal, but they are still a very low revenue team. I just don't see how they can afford to match & trade or to match & keep. They'd probably be a better team with the money to build a team + draft picks than they'd be with Weber + Rinne + a bunch of low paid scrubs.

Keep your batteries in your left front pocket - they'll never check there. And don't skimp - full batteries cost more, but you get what you pay for.

I like Winnik, but the guy has 0 goal scoring ability. He could have a year where he scores 20, but it would take tons of luck. Put it this way, Lee Stempniak has never scored fewer goals than the most goals Winnik has scored in a year. And of course I think that sandpaper is generally way overrated, but... where does Winnik even play on this Calgary team? He's a C/LW, there's too many of those guys already on Calgary.

Too bad Winnik isn't reading this thread. At least he'd think he's a superstar.
