Caps signed Filip Forsberg to his ELC today.

Quote:
Forsberg is training with the Capitals in their development camp, and the team says he's expected to play for Leksand again this season.
Sabres signed one of their first rounders, Zemgus Girgensons to his ELC today as well. Since he was drafted out of USHL, he can go directly to the AHL. CHL rights belong to Kelowna Rockets, but doesn't sound like he's going that route.

I wonder if this route will become more common for foreign-born players or if they'll close this hole in the next CBA. For a guy like Girgensons, if he's capable of playing pro hockey, it seems to make sense - he just got a fat signing bonus, and he'll get himself acquainted to the pro game. Playing college hockey does not seem to make much sense for top players.

How did Vancouver get in this situation?

A top rung goalie that they can't keep and they can't get anything for.

It all started in May of 2009 when Luongo let in 7 goals against Chicago in game 6 of round 2, and Vancouver's season came to an end.

What were Bobby's other fall-apart games?

Are the highlights still on NHL.com?

Exactly one year later, Vancouver lost 5-1 in game 6 to Chicago again.

Then the next year they lost 4-0 to Boston in the finals. So three years in a row, when the Canucks were facing elimination, they got blown out (except for when they finally beat Chicago in game 7, round 1). Obviously, most of the fans and the media blame Luongo.

i was thinking about this last night. i think the ducks should trade bobby ryan, get a decent haul, then pull a fast one by replacing him with Semin. by comparison to Dale Hunter, Bruce Boudreau is probably a saint in Semin's eyes.

Well the obvious answer is that they shouldn't trade him. Having probably the best goaltending tandem in the league is a really good "problem" to have.

@RenLavoieRDS: NHL proposal to players: 1-reduce players hockey related revenues to 46% from 57 %. 2-10 seasons in NHL before being UFA.

hopefully it's just a stupid starting point so they can settle at 50-52% for players, and reasonable stuff for everything else, as makes sense
