I mean he's slightly overpaid I would agree but that's how FA works. It's simple economics of Supply and Demand. Suter was clearly the best available option and there were several teams that wanted him so that drove up his price.

It's like the opposite effect that goalies had a few years ago when they were getting traded for 7th round picks or signed for like 900K

And if you're valuing players by their actual VALUE to the team. ie: Most VALUABLE player. Then how much are guys who can carry an entire team, like Lundqvist, Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos worth? Infinite money/infinite years? Like seriously this is ****ing ridiculous. I know Crosby wanted $8.7M/year, but if Suter's value is $98M/13 years, then surely Crosby has like 4 or 5 times as much VALUE to a team as Suter does? Then that would put Crosby's true market value at like $500M/13 years.

Crosby might be worth $500M/13 years on jersey sales alone.
