I'm surprised no one has picked him up yet. He seemed very solid in his role. Maybe there's some reason the general pubic doesn't know about.

I’d be pleased with that, I’d be a great physical + offensive abilities addition to the gionta and plekanec line. A line that can score but also really solid defensively.

Come on Carey, give a phone call to your cousin.

Should be funny to see Semin lift the cup if he signs with Pittsburgh. Caps really shoulda resigned him for 1yr/$6m or something. I know I was a big hater of Semin at times, but the Caps have like 3 top six forwards, his shortcomings are greatly overstated, and there are no other options out there.

I was hoping Oates would try to communicate that he'll use semin on the PK and give him back those minutes he lost under hunter. But GMGM seems to be talking the same old party line. I can't blame semin looking elsewhere.

Halpern to the Rangers. Interested to see the $, as I felt he was good in his role for the Caps, and scratching him really cost the Caps in the playoffs. God damn Dale Hunter was awful

i'm seeing that it's rumored to be 700k. halpern was very good for a 4th line center. better than beagle, who cost more money and term.

well in fairness to beagle, beagle was matched against top lines a lot of the time, didn't halpern get to play with people like joel ward and keith aucoin who should smash 4th line competition?

I have it on good authority that Doan is only using Montreal's interest to get more money from somewhere else, like every free agent in the history of the world.

i think you're thinking of beagle's usage in the playoffs. during the regular season, they played against almost identical competition and in very similar roles, and halpern was superior in pretty much every way.

Last edited by Nootka; 07-10-2012 at 11:37 AM. Reason: *only slightly superior

Roger Millions' take on the Shane Doan situation:

Quote:
Knowing Shane as I do, he likely doesn't want to uproot his family from Phx. San Jose is an hour's flight away. Also Todd McLellan is a quality person, and I can see a connection with Shane. My two cents.
Of course, he also said we'd be an internal cap team, lol.

I dont think Bergevin will let a blowhard like Denis Coderre dictate his free agent signings. Well I hope not at least.
