It's if he isn't really over her that complications arise.
This is my take too. If GL was truly over FG, banging her would've been the clear play. I actually think that's the clear play except under the condition that it would cause feelings and complicate things which he assured us was not the case. He knew this was probably the last time he'd ever see her and she'd be out of his life for good.

I will give GL credit for having some incredible self control. I don't know how many of us could have passed up sex with a girl we used to worship. Unfortunately it comes off as more of a beat than a brag in this instance. Plus, isn't there something to be said for getting in the pants of the girl you've been after for ages? Why not end that chapter of your life with an exclamation point? Both of you knowing full well that it was a one time deal and that you might never see each other again just makes it that much easier of a decision imo.

I suppose all that matters is that he is happy with his decision, but man, how do you not go through with it? I DO NOT GET YOU GEDDY

he is running hot as well, both in the AHL and in the NHL last year. People just don't maintain that kind of rate. I could believe that Eberle is a 20% shooter in the AHL - he might just be that good and the goalies that much worse than NHL ones - but he's probably not a 15% shooter in the NHL.

Just read this out loud once or twice. Am I really the only one here who thinks this is extremely contradictory and counter-intuitive?

I mean he might be an amazing shooter, but it's REALLY unlikely. Usually the guys with sustainably high S% are standing in front of the net potting in rebounds. There are very few true snipers. When Gabe did his S% analysis (back in 2010), the only true sniper was Kovalchuk. Eberle could be 1/500....or he could be one of the ~1/10 who runs hot and hits 18% in a single year.

If there are almost no one in a category, does that mean they don't exist, or the way they are categorized is wrong?

I'd like to have a beer with the person who creates categories that categorize no one

Kovalchuk seems to have lost this ability since coming to NJ which makes me think it was some combo of seeing backup goalies more frequently than the average player + him never playing defense there.

Again, it only makes sense to not bang her if you think it'll complicate things in the future. You said yourself that it's a one time thing and you'll probably never see her again. What's the downside here exactly? Why would you have any regret?

i dunno, if i didnt care about a hot girl and I felt like banging her and she wanted to, I would.

But we dont all have the luxury to be geddy lee and have a smart, fun, hot friend throw herself at us so what do we know .

More to life than just banging for the sake of banging?

Maybe it's just me but you either want to be making love or ****ing like rabbits. This falls under neither. You want GL to be ****ing his (ex-)dream girl just like that? No trumpets, no fanfare, no thrill, just sexing before bedtime?

No point cheapening the dream for another notch on the bedpost. Ain't no shame in leaving a fantasy a fantasy!

(Unless GL is subconsciously angry. Then a great big angry pounding would probably have been the right move.)

hypothesis:
owners hyping settlement talk, trying to raise expectations. ask for meeting without fehr. make a couple minor concessions, and hope the players feel pressure to take the deal and start the season.

Agree to make whole, and keep free agent age at 27?
Limiting contract length seems too important to give up.

DUSTIN PENNER in a sketch on Conan tonight. Someone has to find clip and post tomorrow. Penner "is such a fan of Conan that he's volunteered to intern for the show during the lockout." This could get good.
