+1 on Roenick's read.

Quote:
"Holy ****," he said. "You're Jeremy Roenick."

"I am," I admitted, "and I need to use your phone."

Hahahaha.

Thanks for linking that. Really good stuff.

Is everyone involved really so greedy that they cant see they are killing the game of hockey in America? How does anyone think this is worth it?

yeah, you might be right.

fehr's memo to the players
from last night was leaked. it's pretty even-keeled (despite PHT's description of it as "pessimistic"). he doesn't seem to be trying to rile the troops, which i think is a good sign.

yeah i mean it's pessimistic insofar as it doesn't say a deal is close, but it wouldn't say that unless they had agreed in principle to how the make whole provision is going to work, and i don't see why they would do that unless they had the basis for an entire agreement worked out.

and fehr knows his memos get leaked.

Mike Emrick broadcasting ECHL hockey tonight with the guy he grew up listening to. Announcer Bob Chase of the Ft Wayne Komets is 84 years old and has called Komets games for 60 years.

Bob Chase said, "I'll let Mike and Robbie (his color guy) handle the whole thing and I'll just hang out and get hammered....I'm joking of course." Haha. Bob Chase is awesome.

doc emrick never lets a chance to reference the fort wayne komets go by - missed hearing his voice on devils games last year, miss hearing it anywhere this year.

Doc is nonstop referencing the Komets, Ft. Wayne, the AHL, the Maine Mariners and Port Huron Flags (minor league teams where he worked), the ECHL, various juniors teams, etc. Insane amount of knowledge, background, and preparation. I have no idea how he does it.

He does a crazy amount of preparation on things for which he can just show up and coast through it...because he's Mike Emrick and just showing up is totally fine. Instead...for the AHL All-Star Game or being nice enough to call-in for a weekly show with an AHL team...he actually studies and gets background that most of us AHL guys weren't fully aware of. It's crazy.

I'm sure he's super-prepared for his Ft. Wayne Komets game with the current roster and all the background info of the players, etc...when so many national announcers being nice enough to show up and do such a game would maybe glance at the roster 10 minutes before broadcast time.

And really all anyone cares about are his stories of growing up in northern Indiana listening to Bob Chase...and how his call of the games got him to push his parents to drive him a couple hours to see his first game live.

If you really miss Doc's call...listen to all the exciting action of the Ft. Wayne Komets vs. the Evansville IceMen tonight!

http://www.komets.com/kometcast/miniplayer.html

Also, in the other booth is Evansville's Terry Ficorelli who is "only" in his 39th year broadcasting minor league hockey. So between Chase in his 60th year and Ficorelli in his 39th that's a combined 99 years...then throw in another 40 or so with Emrick in there.

Ficorelli is the guy I kind of grew up listening to when he did the Cincinnati Cyclones in the early 90's.

I will implode.

I think you wont see me from then until an agreement. Or maybe I will just be flip and curt.

My fortitude, which has surprised me in that it exists at all, is now tapped.

Fort Wayne, IN -- This Friday night when the Komets host the Evansville IceMen at 8pm, Komet radio broadcaster Bob Chase will share the Fort Wayne broadcast booth with special guest Mike “Doc” Emrick for the entire game as it is aired on WOWO AM 1190 and FM 92.3. The game will also be carried worldwide at Xfinity KometCast at www.komets.com.

Chase is celebrating his 60th anniversary behind the Komet microphone this season and is partnered by former Komet goaltender Robbie Irons at home games. Emrick is enjoying his 40th career season as a professional hockey broadcaster. Currently, Emrick is the lead announcer for The NHL on NBC and has credited Chase with inspiring him to enter the field of hockey broadcasting. Emrick grew up in northeast Indiana near Wabash and was first introduced to ice hockey while listening to Chase announce the play-by-play of Komet hockey games on WOWO radio.

“Although my parents took my brother Dan and me to our first game in 1960 at the Coliseum, I first met Bob at WOWO radio in 1966 when I was a student at Manchester working on a school project on sports broadcasting,” Emrick said. “He was very generous of his time that day at the station and has been ever since. To be in the same booth with him and one of my favorite Komets, Robbie Irons, will be one of the most special nights of my 40 years in hockey. It will be fun to be a passenger while Bob drives the bus.”

Chase recently was awarded the NHL U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Lester Patrick Trophy honoring him for his service to hockey in the United States. Emrick is also a recipient of the Lester Patrick Trophy, awarded in 2004. It is believed that Friday night will mark the first time two Lester Patrick Trophy winners have paired to broadcast a professional hockey game.

Boy he does an excellent job up, great program, just outstanding work. He's produced a long line of internet trolls there. Jerry Gartner, Gary Steward, Nicholas Landes...Terry Deel. Mike Randle.....Curtis Tripp. Just an amazing assembly line churning them out. Tremendous work they're doing there, they should be very proud of what they built there. Larry Kilmer from Kamloops, British Columbia and Keith Medford from Taber, Alberta are helping out there with Dover. Just amazing stuff, any parents out there can send their children there and know they're getting an top class education. Truly special.
