Triumph, I was just making a funny. Never expected you to get upset by that post. Not sure where that came from.

I thought the idea of me going to an nhl enforcer and explaining the deer thing was funny. Get it? Haha?
I still don't get it, but I'll take your word for it - it sounded like you were breaking my balls for no reason. But it is way more likely that you weren't doing that.

NHL to cancel Winter Classic

I mean, we all knew it was probably coming. Ugh.

Hey, on the plus side this year we won't have to pretend that outdoor hockey isn't garbage.

Sucks, but doesn't change my optimism about a deal being done in 2-3 weeks.

I legitimately can't believe they're coming this close to wiping out 2 seasons in under a decade. I shouldn't be this naive, but Jesus Christ almighty, what a gongshow.

They are not coming close to wiping out 2 seasons. It's November. The logistics of the Winter Classic make it difficult to stage in a lockout-shortened season, which is a shame - the NBA came back perfectly with Christmas Day as opening day. The NHL unfortunately doesn't have that luxury.

Haha, of course the play of the outdoor games has been terrible. But they look pretty, and I always get weirdly sad that I didn't grow up Canadian playing hockey on ponds in -15 degree weather. They've generally been exciting too.

Ah, I was wondering about why they would cancel, since there have been supporting games at the last couple of these, college games and AHL and whatnot. Turns out those were going to be at Comerica in Detroit, instead of Ann Arbor.

We're still a disaster. No need to highlight that!

Fair enough. It's just an awful look.

James van Riemsdyk man! Former second overall pick, so he has to be elite.

No, I agree about that Avalanche, but besides some late heroics in some of them the games have been nothing at all to speak of.

What do you anticipate for future WC events to combat novelty loss, other than unique venues?

I don't know why people are saying this was definitely canceled because of the lockout - I imagine it has something to do with Wings fans not realizing that hockey is played before April

Imagine all of the fans, friends, and family with plane tickets. I'm sure Ann Arbor is beautiful in January...

Maple Leafs: Let me repeat this one more time, for those of you who weren’t listening: Leafs. Leafs (or leaves, as those of us who can spell properly call them) are so unscary that, if you were making a list of things you are not scared of, you would not even think to put leaves on there. Virtually every single thing in the entire world is scarier than leaves. Pillows are scarier than leaves. Kittens are scarier than leaves. Butterflies and hummingbirds and the warm fuzzy feeling you get in your tummy when you see someone you love: all these things are scarier than leaves. I suppose if they were, like, the Hemlock Leafs, and you were Socrates, there might be something to it, but these are Maple Leafs. The only way they could possibly scare you is by leading to an embarrassing situation where you might have to admit your colorblindness to a group of strangers. [N. B.: Canadians will tell you that you should find this name scary because it comes from the military, which is also why they will tell you that the Regina Pats name, which comes from Princess Patricia, is intimidating. To those Canadians, I ask: why do you name your military units after such unintimidating things?]
Hilarious. She's a good writer.

The New York City marathon is cancelled due to a natural disaster. The Winter Classic was cancelled because of about 3% of HRR.

As we just discussed on Sportscentre. NHL advised PA it will absorb share of Make Whole provision. This is a considerable concession.

Smart people,
when is the real drop dead date?
(date where if they don't have an agreement, a season is just not do-able)
