Connor McDavid has sick hands, but hasn't learned to skate back to the defensive zone yet when his team loses the puck.

So hard watching this when there is zero atmosphere in the arena.

And refs are right quick to jump in on fights. Erie dude was pounding Ottawa players face, both still on their feet, fight was ended.

The Hockey Hall of Fame and the Kings released the first photos of the Stanley Cup with the champions’ names newly engraved on it, and among them was one surprise.

Owner Ed Roski, whose name wasn’t on the original list of 52 names the Kings had submitted for inclusion, appears on the top row, after owners Phil and Nancy Anschutz and AEG boss Tim Leiweke. That gave the team 53 names, one over the limit. However, adding Roski’s name didn’t require adding another line and the NHL gave permission for it to be engraved. Roski was a partner of Phil Anschutz in buying the Kings out of bankruptcy in 1995 but they later developed opposing plans for building a stadium to house an NFL team.

It's interesting that the name of forward Andrei Loktionov was not added, even though he played 39 regular-season games and two playoff games. He wasn't on the original list and a team spokesman said Loktionov didn't qulaify based on the criteria the team had set internally.

http://www.latimes.com/sports/sports...,3391811.story

a whole crap load of extra useless names on the Cup including some dude who used to own the team, but a guy who played about half the games and a couple in the playoffs? nahhhhhh

makes sense...

also, from wiki:

There are several misspellings and illegitimate names on the Cup. Many of them have never been corrected. Examples include:

Pat McReavy's name is misspelled "McCeavy" as a member of the 1941 Boston Bruins.
Dickie Moore won six cups, his name was spelled differently five times (D. Moore, Richard Moore, R. Moore, Dickie Moore, Rich Moore).
Glenn Hall's name was misspelled as "Glin" in 1951–52.
Bob Gainey was spelled "Gainy" when he was a player for Montreal in the 1970s.
Ted Kennedy was spelled "Kennedyy" in the 1940s.
Toronto Maple Leafs was spelled "Leaes" in 1963.
Boston Bruins was spelled "Bqstqn" in 1972.
New York Islanders was spelled "Ilanders" in 1981.

One name was later scratched out: Peter Pocklington, a former Edmonton Oilers owner, put his father's name, Basil, on the Stanley Cup in 1984; today, there is a series of "X"s over Basil's name.
In 1996, Colorado Avalanche's Adam Deadmarsh's last name was spelled "Deadmarch". It was later corrected, marking the first correction on the Cup. Similar corrections were made in 2002, 2006 and 2010 for the names of Detroit Red Wings goalie Manny Legace ("Lagace"), Carolina Hurricanes forward Eric Staal ("Staaal") and Chicago Blackhawks forward Kris Versteeg ("Vertseeg").

does the engraver enjoy a drink every now and then by any chance? lol

There are no videos of Nelson Emerson's Spin-O-Ramas.

That's I what I remember most about him. That made it into NHL 94?

I believe Jacques Plante's name was misspelled like 4 times on the Stanley Cup but can't seem to find this fact anywhere. There were some ridic ones too.

Found a marginal citation definitely needed

Quote:
The record belongs to Montreal Canadiens goaltending legend Jacques Plante. His name has been misspelled on hockey’s Holy Grail an amazing five times! Some of the errors include ‘Jack’, ‘Jocko’ and ‘Plant’.
But I've heard that exact thing before so yeah

Jocko Plant, one of the most influential goaltenders ever

lol according to wiki answers

Quote:
During the Canadiens' five straight Stanley Cups, Jaques Plante's name was only spelled right once so four times. (All the other times the Canadiens won the Stanley Cup with him his name was spelled correctly).

Sigh, I might have to watch Finnish league, the withdraws are bad.

BTW Erik Karlsson played his first game on Saturday here and it seems that there might be a "slight" skill difference between Finnish league and NHL.

Erik Karlsson 1 0 1 +1 0 +1 9 23.15

One goal, nine shots (the next guy had 6), player of the game and team mates kept wasting his passes. It's going to get nasty. He might be even better in a big rink.

ugh, good lord. I am not sure we can draw conclusions from 1 game against some at best ahl-type players.
