That's awesome. Are we sure that's Danny Taylor though? Taylor is a goalie and the song references hands and getting in a fight. I guess he's singing as a generic hockey guy and not a goalie per se.

I think it is Danny though. I recall some fans having some resentment to him and I didn't really know what that was about. maybe they told me there was some song and I just forgot.

He played one game there so wasn't around long enough to really bother anyone personally. But I think this song getting out there must have been it.

I saw Taylor return there with a different team in 08-09, and wheeling lit him up for 9 goals I think. Fans were especially vicious.

So following Triumph's recommendation (which he made like 2 years ago, I'm slow at getting stuff done), I finally got around to watching the movie Big Fan.

Great movie , you all should check it out if you haven't already.

I just read the description and saw that Patton Oswalt starred in it - instantly added and moved to position 1 on my Netflix queue.

And to make the movie more hilarious I'm just going to pretend Triumph is Oswalt's character. He's already got the obsessed sports fan who bleeds Giants blue thing going on.

For the past week, I have been working on a project that is going to save the 2012-2013 NHL season.

I'll go into detail on September 1st.

Details on what the league had in their proposal yesterday, from TSN...

Quote:
The latest proposal is for a six-year term on the new CBA.

The first three years would come in at fixed, pre-negotiated players' share dollar thresholds: 11 per cent, 8.5 per cent and 5.5 per cent less than the 2011-12 totals in the first three years respectively.

The players would also get a share in "upside hockey-related revenue growth" of over 10 per cent in each of the first three years.

For the final three years of the deal the league and players split revenues 50-50.

The players' share percentages under the league's new definition of hockey-related revenues would be gradually reduced over the course of the six-year deal.

The 2012-13 season would see the players receive a 51.6 per cent cut. In 2013-14 that total would drop to 50.5 per cent, before further dipping to 49.6 per cent in 2014-15.

For the following three seasons (2015-16 through 2017-18) the players would see an even 50 per cent.

The salary cap would see an immediate reduction followed by a gradual rise over the course of the deal.

The cap for 2012-13 - projected to be $70.2 million under the existing CBA - would be cut to a fixed $58 million under the latest proposal.

That number would rise to a fixed $60 million in 2013-14 and then to a fixed $62 million the following year.

Projected cap numbers for the final three years of the deal include: $64.2 million in 2015-16, $67.6 million in 2016-17 and $71.1 million in 2017-18.
$58 million cap would be hilarious right now when half the league is already above that.

They could deal with that in a couple of ways - they might do a rollback on existing contracts (which I think they did last time) and they might give every team a one-contract mulligan (for example) that doesn't apply against the cap.

can someone explain to me how the players share can go down (then sticks around 50%), but the cap can continue to rise over the years? and how can you fix the cap number when you're splitting revenue by %? like if revenue goes up isn't there a potential to have a crap load of money stuck in escrow or something? someone walk me through this, bc i'm just not getting it on first read.

this proposal seems pretty stupid, like we'll go through all of this, just to get back to where we are now in about 2017-18 and have another lockout, if revenue hasn't increased sufficiently. but even if it has, we'll probably just do it anyway.

jfc is it really that hard to relax to give the players 50-52%, relax the ceiling with some kind of luxury tax for the rich teams, add in more revenue sharing for luxury tax money and a relaxed floor for the welfare teams, profit. maybe a small rollback in the amount that the cap is decreasing from the projections bc some stupid teams went out and spent up to $70m.

Yes, the money would get taken in escrow, unless the NHL had a really good year revenue-wise. Players already don't necessarily get paid what their salaries say.

The wealthy teams aren't getting enough money under a proposal like that, they want more, and they're going to get it.

It's refreshing to see a team not pull off the "terms of the contract are undisclosed per team policy" bull****.

Well he gave $2.5M to Brandon Prust so let's not get carried away with the praise just yet.

I love Pacioretty's deal tho.

pro-rates to a 20g/49pts/+20 season over 82gp

plus it's a signing for the future, like years 3-5 rather than 1-2

plus it'll get rollbacked to whatever, less than $3.5m per

plus something something centers (i mean he's probably better than Gomez & Eller for example)

pro rates as in, if you take his best stretch of 50 games?

From an admitedly eye test he didnt seem anything special. 5 years seems like a contract to get a discount down the road, that is if he ever gets to be a discount.
Bettman Lockout III Thread (aka NHL Offseason: Now & Forever) Quote

no, pro rates as in i took what he did with Ottawa last year, and extrapolated it over 82 games

i also think your eye test is off and he's a pretty talented offensive player. if he continues to get stronger i think he could be a pretty good contributor down the line.

i mean, i thought this goal for example was pretty neat:

but yeah, maybe he's not quite as good as the 3rd line center on the 3rd worst team in the league, idk...

The Sens got 3 UFA years at $3.5M. The timing is a little puzzling but it seems like a fine deal.
