Max Pacioretty at 6 years x 4.5M is a rape of a contract.

Random draft idea:

20 2+2ers

We draft 20 NHLers each. Every goal is worth 12 points, every assist is worth 8 points, every hit is worth 1 point, every pim is worth 2 points.

I'm pretty sure you can set yahoo up to run like that. No line changes or free agents or whatever, just set the 20 teams and let it run out.

as defective as the auction was, that draft was super fun. especially when we all converged at midnight to discuss our daily reapings. iirc, etats (shimmy? what's up with that name anyways?) tore it up after every one went broke.

either way, i'm...

[x] modern era
[x] no simulation, pure discussion

So there are like 8 million different ways to do a draft or what?

pretty much

last draft:

Players are eligible if they've played at least one NHL game and their first NHL game took place during the 1979-80 season or later

what year should we use this time?

80 seems like a good cutoff IMO

so we're basically doing the same draft over again, just a couple years later?

1994-95 because it was the first year average save percentage was >.900

I'd probably remove the first game requirement though.

anyone drafted during/after 94-95 or anyone who's played in the nhl after during/after that season?

Anyone who has played 1 game in the 94-95 season or later.

Edit: Maybe back it up to 91-92 or 92-93 to have 20 years to draw from.

Anyone who has played less than 100 games in the NHL.

Probably not, just throwing out suggestions.

yeah starting at 94-95 might be good, as it was the season that came after Bettman Lockout I (following the last good NHL season in 1994, and the start of the AIDS Tarp Era with the Devils winning the Cup in the half season year that didn't happen). prob wasn't quite like after Bettman Lockout II with so many guys retiring after the full season was lost, and the game changed significantly, but i would suspect that a higher than average number of players did call it quits in 1994 bc of the stoppage.

or we could start with 92-93 or 93-94 for a "Bettman Era Draft" (he started as Commish in Feb. '93).

ooah, so is the 93' idea like no gretzky/mario? i think i like that - a big problem with the 79' one was comparing across a couple eras.

K I'll do this one I guess, but we need to get a regular draft going before the season too. One with results so we can be results oriented and chirp each other.

We could make the ME 2.0 one be so that you have to fill a certain non-negotiable quota ie. 5 GOCBs, 5 GOABs, 4 GOQBs, 3 enigmatic former soviet unionites, 2 non-previously mentioned regions etc, etc

(or something not region based)

But Mario and Wayne were still in the NHL post-95

So how would the draft work?

You would treat it as if the NHL started in 95 and then just evaluate from there?

i.e. Wayne and Mario wouldn't be obv #1 and #2s?
