wtf, this seems like a "reputation building" rumor, since I don't think either GM is this dumb. Howson probably leaked this false rumor before the draft to drive up demand, then leaked it again afterwards so his rumor leaks seem more plausible in the future.
wat. he won a conn smythe and was 2nd in vezina voting. unless he has a not great year next year he will be one of the highest paid goalies in the league.
I feel like there are some elite trolls around here when it comes to making fun of the Canucks. But hats off to Luongo. Some of the **** he's pulled off in the last 3 years is just incredible work.
I mean ****ing Florida is his 1 and only option to move now? He knows that his contract is worth millions and Florida doesn't make money right?
Also somewhat relevent fact: There will be 6 Olympic games between today and July 1st, 2022 when Luongo is a UFA.

you f'ing hope.
I'm just hoping praying he likes LA enough to not demand top dollar
"When the offer was rejected by Howson, it marked the first time in Garth Snow's Be A GM career that trading all of his draft picks in one year did not allow him to acquire any commodity in the league"
Heres a pretty standard Joe thornton type play, create a wide open goal for his team mate through deception. The soft hands, vision and the touch on this pass, just phenomenal.
Now this is the one I voted for because it shows the maturity and the evolution of the game of joe thornton, being a player that isnt just a ppg hall of famer, but also elite in all three zones. Notice the commitment to the back check, then the quick, smooth transition up the ice on the breakout, to eventually burying the goal.
tough to say. i mean it's prob ~ok, but i don't think i'd ever bother taking a goalie in the 1st. goalies are just too easy to find, aren't all that valuable (over say a replacement level guy, afaik), and have pretty big bust potential as prospects. and i still don't have a great feel for how good Bernier is anyway. also consider the following picks in that draft:
#23 - Semyon Varlamov
#26 - Leland Irving
#34 - Michal Neuvirth
#46 - Jhonas Enroth
#69 - Steve Mason
#99 - James Reimer
etc
if they took say Little or Grabner instead that might be better, but if they got Tlusty or someone then w/e. like i said it's prob fine bc he looks like he could be a good one (results oriented), but i'd pass on goalies early in the draft and take my chances with a skater, and live with it if the guy was a bust.
Here's another one putting Pavelec's replacement value at $1.5-2.0m, with a possible answer to my question about protecting bad goaltenders [shot quality is insignificant].
I don't remember any Oates rants from triumph over the last two seasons, so I am assuming Oates is at least as good as deboer and thus > tortorella.
I don't really talk about the Devils on here. Let it be known that a sizable portion of Devils fans wanted him fired both last year and this year, blaming him for the power play issues. Surprisingly, the Devils acquired people who can actually play on a power play and people shut up about it.

Other first-year eligible players include goaltenders Curtis (Cujo) Joseph and Olaf Kolzig as well as forwards Bobby Holik, Michael Peca and Gary Roberts and defenceman Darius Kasparaitis. Uber-agitator Claude Lemieux, winner of the 1995 Conn Smythe Trophy, is also eligible this year.
Others players who have previously been passed over in Hall voting that still merit consideration include Dave Andreychuk, Pavel Bure, Phil Housley, Kevin Lowe, Steve Larmer, Eric Lindros, Alexander Mogilny and Bernie Nicholls, among others.
kind of feel like Bure, Lindros, & Mogilny should maybe get some real consideration eventually if there's a weak year, prob Andreychuk & Housley too. Lowe might get in eventually bc of RANGZ, connections, and all that. and Claude Lemieux should get consideration sooner or later.
prob can't put any of those guys over the big 4 this year though...
