I have now learned that you can really exploit a trade when brothers are involved.

JVR ran really bad this year and still had >0.5 PPG through injuries. Schenn has been pretty bad the past two years. He does have upside, but straight up this is a bad deal.

also, why do pens fans always consider any player's contract unreasonable, unless he took a discount to play in pittsberg?

@thekidet It was a great trade. JVR didn't live up to pick. Had a bigger need on D. JVR was repaced by Braydon Schenn

Next Jet, Kosmachuck fell pretty far.

Edmonton drafts Zharkov, sounds like a new Kurri from the highlight package and description. This is going to be another long decade.

What's the dollar value of a conditional 7th pick? Did they send Burke a compliment? We are now goalie-rich, with a starter and as many as 3 backups, all but one are UFAs. And then they draft 2 more goalies. There aren't enough nets in the system.

I was going to multi-comment the draft, but I didn't last through the long gap between picks.

I'm not sure why they're not signing Fehr. He convalesced here for a year and just started to show something. Could they have offered him less than his current salary without letting him go UFA first?

Ryan Olsen is a Saskatoon Blade, another centre, most highlights are fisticuffs.

And now here we are before Free Agency and I feel like they may be preparing to tear the hearts out of the fans. We have lots of smaller natural centres, but I can almost sketch a proper winning [.500+] team.

Here's a team I would like to watch, with some misgivings noted.

Ladd-Little-Wheeler/Fehr/Wellwood/?
Kane-Scheifele-Wheeler/Wellwood/?
Burmistrov-Antropov-Fehr/Wellwood/Stapleton/?
Glass-Slater-Thorburn

Enstrom-Byfuglian
?/Hainsey-Bogosian
Stuart-Flood/Hainsey/Clitsome

Pavelec/Monster/Mason/Pasquale/Whatever

Can someone CapGeek that? Thanks in advance.

The first line is oddly effective with Wheeler, but I still don't know why. Ladd and Byfuglian always look like they need skate sharpening and skating lessons to me. But if it works, it works.

If Scheifele can make the team this year I would like to see Wheeler and Kane flying around for him, but can anyone else make the first line go? I had stratospheric hopes for Fehr, and I thought Ladd-Little-Fehr would be the second line.

I like big Nik, and Antropov-Burmistrov early in the season gave me flashes of Zhamnov-Korolov. That alley-oop play, why did they ever break them up? Burmistrov showed he could be an effective 2-way centre, I guess that's why, but I would rather have three scoring lines. Of course, Burmistrov would be a very cool look on the off-wing with Scheifele-Kane. And my real plan is for Ladd-Little to be the 3rd line.

GST on the fourth line is exactly right.

Enstrom looked like the Pocket-Teppo at times, but teams showed how he can be overpowered near the post-season. Byfuglian will be [a lumbering] Coffey in a few years, that's my prediction.

Can you play off-wing on defense, because I have gained so much respect for Hainsey and Stuart, they would be a brutal, terrifying pair, if Bogo can now be trusted and we can get someone coming up or someone good enough to bring us to the cap floor to slot in beside him at 3.

I hope Gabe from Behind the Net is right about goalies.

[Which will bring us to part 3]
