how the hell do you become a 1st round pick after going undrafted twice?

i mean i've seen Pearson play a bit, and he looks really good, but wtf. super late bloomer or something? how can he be that far off the radar that someone would use a 7th on him or w/e, then he becomes a 1st?

and scary that the KANGZ got him, he'll be 20 if the next season starts on time, he could possibly walk into their current team and help next year. damn.

I really hope the Subban pick isn't an indication that the Bruins might have a problem reaching a long term deal with Rask. Otherwise, I'm fine with it.

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to put that one together. Eklund's probably mad he didn't think of it first.

Strange day though and I'm not really sure how to react. It's painful to see Staal traded but Shero had little choice given that Staal didn't want to be here any longer and managed to get an excellent return in the process.

Michalek deal doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Seems like he should garnered a bigger return than a third round pick and a couple of crappy prospects. We were also well under the cap so it's not even as if it paves the way to a Suter / Parise signing. Speaking of, Shero might as well have announced to the world that he's going to do everything in his power to sign one of those two on July 1st. And god damnit he better.

As for the draft itself, I know very little about any of the prospects and for all but a select few it was the first time I'd heard any of their names. So naturally with Forsberg being ranked 3rd by TSN and seemingly a perfect fit on Sid's right wing the casual fan in me was irate when we passed on him to reach for yet ANOTHER defenseman. Of all the defensive prospects TSN was talking about to that point I swear I hadn't heard this kid's name once. I was actually starting to feel okay about the pick when Pierre started gushing over it until I remembered that he does this with every single ****ing prospect. But then we got Maatta which is cool because other people think he was a steal or something. Whatever.

July 1st? Can't wait!

lol, catching up on my twitter feed and apparently there was the framework of a deal being discussed with Michalek + heading to Phoenix for Yandle. Okay, so what the **** happened? Phoenix took out Yandle, threw in some scraps instead and we took it? Shame on you Ray Shero.

Dont worry Forsberg will probably be a bust. And Tom Wilson? JESUS CHRIST. Pro tip Mcphee- if they mention a player's fighting ability more than their offensive skill picking them at 16 is probably ******ed. His scouting reports are hilarious- "loves throwin the body around! A real maniac on the ice! Great fighter! Oh and his offense is ok too"

You got Michalek for free. Now you're confused that somehow he's not worth very much on the trade market? Players who sign UFA rarely go for much in trade because you have to pay them market value. Shero can't convince everyone in the world to play for half their worth.

If the Penguins also deal Martin, they can afford Parise and Suter for sure. They might wait to pull the trigger on that deal until they know they have Suter - that's just sensible. And it's tilting me that this might actually come to pass, it would be an enormous coup for Shero and company. They already got a sick return for Staal, capitalizing on the fact that Carolina really doesn't consider him a UFA (I guess, because otherwise that's an enormous overpay). At this rate it looks like it'll be at least another 10 years before Pittsburgh has to tank, go broke, and end up getting a once-in-a-generation player.

in a men's league stats are not that important - i mean, yeah, if he has good numbers there he's got a good chance of being a great player - but just the fact that he was there shows he's got skill
