You know the great thing about pre-selling these books to Rangers fans? The Rangers fans won't have to keep track of what date and time the book actually comes out.

Hey guys,

Just wondering what you smart hockey guys think Bryan Allen's value is going into this season? He's UFA on July 1. He's going to be 32 to start the up coming season. I just read the following about his stats:

Quote:
Allen's physical // defensive-based play is quantifiable, so the rhetoric and hyperbole can be shelved. Allen was seventh on the Carolina Hurricanes in hits with 111, but it was his blocked shots total -- 188 in eighty-two games -- that's probably his biggest sell. Not only did he finish with the team lead, but ranked fourth-overall in the NHL -- trailing just Josh Gorges, Brett Clark, and Francois Beauchemin.

On Carolina, Allen was primarily used at even-strength and the penalty kill, logging 16:30 TOI evened-up, and 2:30 of kill time per game.

Regarding his advanced metrics, Allen did tow one of the team's best Corsi Relative QualComp's at +1.014, suggesting he did play relatively well against elite competition

I want your buddy in Calgary. We really need someone - nay, anyone - to play on the blueline.

yeah i think he'll get paid, just cause there aren't too many good UFA's, and lots of teams have money and need D.

I'm in a debate on another forum and know little about the NHL, but how often does a player go straight from HS to the NHL? Also, has there ever been a player from the Dominican Republic in the NHL? Seems impossible to me, but I just want to make sure.

Only player I know about that did this was Tom Barrasso. I'm sure there's others.

After looking a bit, Jeremy Roenick also.

They're not Dominican, you putz!

Brian Lawton and Phil Housley went straight to the bigs from prep school as well. In fact, Lawton was a 1st overall pick.

No Dominicans ever in the NHL though ever, correct?

Not sure about Dominicans but the high school thing is a little odd. It's very common for North American players to play juniors, and I'm sure many of them go to high school wherever they are, and a few of those a year go to the NHL at 18. So it's not like they're on normal high school teams, but they basically do make that jump.

American HS to NHL is very rare. Canadian juniors is a common path, but that's not really similar to playing in American HS.

Wangzzzzzz gonna make that big splash

Quote:
That may be about to change, with the two possibly joining the Red Wings.

Officials from several teams and some agents say that more than a decade after they first worked out together at the National Training and Development Program in Ann Arbor as high school kids, Parise and Suter appear determined to wear the same NHL sweaters.

Few, least of all Parise and Suter, want to discuss the situation publicly, but a common assumption is that like Chris Bosh and LeBron James deciding to play with Dwyane Wade for the Heat two summers ago, Parise and Suter are intent on signing together with a new team.

Many believe that team is the Red Wings, which likely can afford both and has what both 27-year-olds seek: a particular style of play and a reasonable opportunity annually to win the Stanley Cup.

"Lots of us were at an event last year, and they were taking quite a bit of ribbing about it," said one hockey official, who asked not to be named for fear of offending the players.

"I recall specifically someone walking up to them in the parking lot and saying, 'Hey, I hear you guys are both with the Red Wings next year!'

"They were pretty sheepish about it. You know, smiling, but not saying much at all."

The Red Wings intend to make a substantial splash in free agency this summer. Parise is the top forward available, and Suter the top defenseman.

Amid an increasing sense the Red Wings are among the few teams that have what both players seek, another enticing prospect emerges: Parise and Suter may want the Red Wings as much as the Red Wings want Parise and Suter.

"I am assuming that, at least as of right now, they are a package deal," said one NHL team official, who is aware of the circumstances.

"They certainly seem to have set it up that way, themselves."

Seriously, if Suter and Parise both sign for the Wings on July 1st, after Holland did his very best to set up Detroit for an epic fall from grace with ridiculous 15 year contracts and atrocious early round drafting, I might jump off a bridge.

It's just not ****ing fair.
